Centuries?Bro, the Ottomans ran the Middle East until WWI... You're embarrassing yourself. Historical ignorance aside, let's stick to today... If we are "arming both sides" do me a favour and name the British firm currently supplying targeting lasers to the sides getting bombed... I can wait...
Treaty of the Dardanelles - Wikipedia
Great Britain on 5 January 1809 at Çanak, Ottoman Empire. The treaty ended the Anglo-Turkish War. The Porte (the Ottoman government) restored extensive British commercial and legal privileges in the empire. Britain promised to protect the integrity of the Ottoman Empire against the French threat, both with its own fleet and through weapons supplies to Constantinople. The treaty affirmed the principle that no warships of any power should enter the straits of the Dardanelles and the Bosporus. The treaty anticipated the London Straits Convention of 1841, by which the other major powers committed themselves to this same principle.
The British supported the Ottomans for a very long time, this is just one particular instance but they absolutely did, every "great" empire traded for self interests in various ways.
Glass houses and stones, and all that.
They also began mass importing arms during the 20th century:
Weapons of the Ottoman Army | NZ History
The Ottoman Army went to war in 1914 with significant gaps in its arsenal, particularly in machine guns and field artillery.
Granted the above is a smaller window.
The fact the middle east, and as such empires or powers relating to it has been heavily importing western arms for donkey's years isn't exactly a myth.

Arming the ruling Ottoman Empire in 1809 to help protect british naval interests from the french isn't "arming both sides" of a middle eastern conflict now is it? It's exactly what I said we do - picking one highly lucrative and strategic side and arming it to the teeth. Absolute mental gymnastics you're trying, don't hurt yourself.
