Goldfish floating problem..

Fast it for a couple of days. It's common for dry food to expand in the gut and then the swim bladder gets messed up.

Quite right, i don't think increasing the voltage is going to help in this situation. Shame you can't just reboot.

I dunno, maybe some water cooling is needed...

Right this will sound stupid....

One of my goldfishes is 14 years old, it has 'died' three times (as in do exactly what you are describing). Every time it has done this I have put in a bucket of very cold fresh water and its always come back to life. My other fishes are, well one of them is now dead but died when it was 7 years old and that cold water method worked once. The other is now 8 years old

14! WTF.... Are you sure your mum just hasn't been replacing it when it dies?

Take it to the vet's, if it's a swim bladder infection there are antibiotics you can put in the water to cure it. A fish is like any other creature, if it gets sick it can be healed if treated in time. Congrats on another quality OcUK thread you guys.

 So you admit you are no good at offering advice?

Anyway fish swimming on the side is ok as everyone said.

Fish losing scales is something else, if other fish develop similar symptoms then you need some form of water cleaner etc. We have outdoor fish which are pretty hardcore and active (;)) had similar problems in the early days. Takes one twitchy new fish to bring the whole lot down so keep an eye on em all.

Not on this subject no, I am not a vet. Why I suggested contacting one.

Do not think that warranted a  at me thanks.

Are you really recommending racking up tens of quids worth of vets fees over a 99p goldfish?

No I am recommending phoning the vet and asking.

Maybe not today, as they may be able to offer some advice on the phone.

One thing you can try (although you may be too late) is to try feeding it a pea (just defrost it (the pea not the fish) in some water) try squashing it between your fingers (again the pea not the fish) so that the fish can eat it. This is said to help with swim bladder problems.

i have never tried this but some people have had sucess, good luck.

also try a small water change (note the word small), clean water is good water, goldfish are dirty little things.

I've had many goldfish and there are many medicines available that you can put into the water. Take a trip down to your local aquatic shop or large pet store, it's not expensive.

As for the people coming up with pathetic comments.... it may only be a fish but it's still a pet. Some people pay a small sum for their dogs, cats etc but they still spend out the hard earned to prolong their lives. Have some bloody feelings
