goldring's

Had my D100's for nearly 6 months now. Still as comfortable as the first day- and still outdo every other headset I try.

So if the money is a lil' tight, the D100's are a solid choice!

From what I've read, the DR100's are a great set of cans...so I'm guessing you'd probably be happy with either.

I personally opted for the DR150's as £59 inc shipping seemed a pretty good deal, especially considering the reviews they get. Hopefully they'll arrive tomorrow :)

@ Monkeynut, have you modded your DR150's? I've read that removing a thin layer of foam from inside the cups make them sound even better?

I find the fit of DR50s and DR100s (which are the same form factor as DR150s) a bit too tight, squeezing the sides of my head enought to be quite uncomfortable after wearing them for a long time. Might be something to bear in mind if you have a big head.

I have the same problem with HD515, HD555, HD595, HD580 and HD600, which get a lot of praise for their comfort. Thinking of trying some Audio Technica ATH-AD700 or something else with a fit designed to prevent head squeeze.

I've not tried that. I'm afraid I will break them. :p

ive got thr dr100's and they sound really good ...but have never listened to the 150's to give you a fair comparison keep the 30 quid in ya pocket

I've got a pair of DR100s. Find them very pleasant to use, very comfortable even for my massive head.

The bass is fairly light but feels punchy and tight to my uncultured ears.

A bargain for #30 compared to a lot of other headphones I've owned.

Well, my DR150's arrived in the post...and they're fantastic! The detachable cable (designed by QED) is a nice touch too.

They sounded great straight from the box, but after leaving them on over night (for a couple of nights) they've really opened up.

£59 inc shipping, two year warranty, and great sound = bargain :)

just saw some dr150s on bgrade for 35quid.

Arriving tomorrow :D Hope they are ok!

They'd been tempting me for days, and I'm kind of glad you've grabbed them. I'm sure that they wouldn't be any more comfortable than my old DR50s or DR100s, which is why I got rid of those, but I'm sure the DR150s will sound great.

anything will be more comfy than my current 3quid competitor headset xD

I just hope they have everything with them (ie, the wire..)

woo dispatched :)

they arrived :)

they have a crack on the casing (bottom left near the G logo) but nothing major I dont think. And the box was open. But thats all thats wrong

They need breaking in to warm the sound up but they dont sound bad after half an hour of use. The bass is starting to filter in more and more with a lot more depth too it.

They are quite comfy, big enough to fit round my ear not ontop of it so I dont think they will hurt after a few hours of use. Padded where it needs it, forget im wearing it sometimes

Nay bad for 35quid I dont think. Quote happy. Just gotta wait for my clip o nmic to be delivered now!

Glad you got them ok Psypher...shame about the crack though.

Anyway, at least you got the cable with them! :)

I'd definitely just leave them on overnight for a couple of nights as it has really opened my pair up...and they just seem to sound better everytime I use them!
As I mentioned in a previous post, there is a mod you can do to make them sound even better (apparently).

Nice find for £35! :)

left them on when i went to asda, and blimey sounding better all ready :D

Even more excited bout them now! haha.

Anywhere where that mod is described more? Google seems to fail at anything goldring dr140 (reviews etc) let alone a mod.

I'll try and find the link again which details the mod.

If I remember rightly though, it just involves unscrewing the four little screws inside each ear cup (you might have to push aside the ear pads to see them). Once removed, you should be able to pull them apart (carefully of course) and there's supposed to be a piece of foam that's taped over the grills inside. Remove that foam and then put them back together again...and that's it I think.
From what I read it's a pretty quick and simple job, and apparently it really makes a difference. I'm considering trying it myself, but tbh they sound great as they are...maybe one day I'll try it though :)

That might be because there isn't a Goldring DR140 :p

Be very careful about that mod. I recall it generated a lot of initial enthusiasm, followed by several people months later saying that they reversed it, putting the foam back in. Lots of people claimed that it was actually detremental to the sound of fully burned in DR150s.

There is a lesser version of the mod, that involves keeping the foam but removing most of the tape that's used to hold it in place. That seems like the way to go if you're going to mod it at all.

There's a huge thread on Head-Fi about the DR150s. Worth reading the whole thing to see both sides of the mod argument.
