By the looks of it - its still games that matter. All this about parallelism sounds good but its restricted to a few specialised operations and functions and not a lot for home games players other than games.

I can imagine the card being used to crunch numbers in science.

On the subject of gamers still mattering, have you seen the minimum frame rates reported by the 5870? Makes every other card on the market look a but gutless. And minimum frame rates are what makes the difference between a game, and a slide show. :)

NV will bring out a fast card for sure, and then a dual gpu one too, but........can they also bring the audio features too and keep the price competitive? And there's still the 5890 and 5870x2 to come. It's going to be very interesting, that's for sure.

What makes me laugh is that we're already on DX11 and we havent even finished with DX10 yet, I think I can count on 2 hands how many proper DX10 titles there are out there and slow down what about Alan Wake?
I dont think we'll start seeing DX11 gaming till at least this time next year was DX10 just a huge flop and DX11 is going to be the next DX9, or its it all just a huge marketing scam....

Oh and I forgot something else DX10.1 or was that just a dream I had.

DX11 is More Than Just Games - please google DirectCompute and OpenCL, and for further research, also have a look into Tesla, CUDA and Stream; DC and OpenCL are 'standard', easy to work with riffs of the aforepmentioned proprietary techs.

All those DX11 features relate to more graphics or better in game physics but these are good enough. Single player games might be interesting to teenagers etc but when you have played games as long as me then you will know that AI is games is the same as ever and just a crap. The harder the mode the more enemies come at you and the less damage your guns do but it aint any AI improvements.

Keep on making your enemies and landscapes look more real if you want but that will not result in better games per se, just better looking games. Physics in games is quite good already but the game play is no better than 20 years ago.

Only online games are really what matters and better graphics is more distracting so often online gamers turn down the eye candy.

The people here buying into the hype and buying multiple cards on some kind of materialist trip or fantasy into playing games on 30" monitors at 60 fps (minimum) can keep it up as it just makes it all cheaper when people really have to upgrade just to games not actually running on our current rigs.

I can understand people needing to upgrade when frame rates get too slow etc but the people who love the bleeding edge and posting 3DMark scores are fine to but a little silly and loaded with money I suppose.

Agreed, SP can get tediously frustrating at times especially in FPS. COD4's SP was genuinely annoying me after the half way point because I would just face endlessly respawning enemies.

And look at assassin's creed, constant repetition of the same 6 basic tasks with only 2 hours of true gameplay.
