good cathodes? - red ones :/

from reading around, it seems most red cathodes are more pink than red :/ but has anyone had good red ones ever? even if they were more orange than pink it would be better.

i know LED's are better for the colour, but i just don't think they can light up a case as good? red led case fans are no good because i'd want to be able to turn off the light.

any ideas?

i always fancied blue light but it just seems that most ppl have blue so i'd like to go for something different. is there any hope for red lighting? :( :confused: :o
 
I'm not sure about this, but I would say it's red neons that are more of a culprit for being pink than cathodes. I think there is a difference. I've not used a red cathode, but the pics of them I see generally look orange at worst. Some look proper red. Depends on manufacturer maybe. I've seen a couple of pink looking ones, but not many. Need someone with a red one to weigh in on this. Was looking to get one of the Akasa red ones myself soon.

Don't get the sharkoon ones, they are cheap but they are pink, anyone tried the revoltec ones?
 
tbh, ive not found any decent red cathodes.
i really hate to say it but... your better off with LED's

maybe try and get a hold of tube LEDs... looks like a cathode, but full of LED's
 
yeah i definately agree, but i don't want to rig up 200 LED's to get the same effect as a few cathodes. guess i'll carry on looking around for suitable solutions
 
AC Ryan are supposed to be really good - never had red ones or any AC ryan cathods for that matter so it's only what i've read/heard
 
been looking for AC Ryan stuff, but the stuff i always want is always out of stock :*(

hopefully i can source a few items shortly after xmas, and i'll report with pics :)

Question: do the UV cathodes give out purple light?? I've read people saying they don't give out any light, yet in all pics they glow purple. Is this just an added effect? I would like purple light in my case, but will a UV light give this? Anyone got one?

you can buy purple (non-uv) cathodes if you didn't know :) or are you just seeing if the UV one can do both in effect?

i was kind of considering UV, it seems a bit more subtle :D
 
I'm not bothered about the actual UV effect as I don't have a window and don't intend to have one, so cables and stuff that glows under UV light is of no interest. However, lots of pics I've seen of UV lights look bluey. In fact, I don't think i've seen 2 pics of a UV light that look the same. You never know until you see it in person I guess. I've not seen many straight purple cathodes out there though, but I see your point on UV maybe being more subtle. I wouldn't want full in your face pimp purple! A subtle purple glow with a black case could be really smart.

best thing to do is get a light bulb mount from b&q and then get a red bulb from a chicken hut :D

you could even get a red lamp shade for it :D

i laughed my head off at the idea tho, a light bulb on a chord like a house one, dangling from the case roof with a lamp sade LOL

OK, dug out some pics that may help some people (helped me understand it a bit better anyway).

First pic is a case with UV lighting alone. Clearly it's visible, and clearly rather nice. Second pic is a purple cathode (non-UV).

gt_junkie the akasa cathode will be so girly when you turn it on it's unreal, but modding it in this way makes it a lot, well BETTER you'll be happy with the results.
I think there are so called TRUE red cathodes which are a lot easier to get in the US.
 
no idea re:coolermaster cathodes, but tbh i'd expect it to not be very red, its just a harder colour for them to make
