good cathodes? - red ones :/

what about optx by streetglow they make a red cathod tube now that has to be good as its from street glow am i correct

AC Ryan are supposed to be a very reputable make of cathode, but i've heard these are still more of an orangey colour than red. Yet to hear of any red cathode that is actually proper red!

don't flame me for this but i'm even considering a Zalman Fatal1ty FS-C77 and not because i have a hard-on for Mr Wendal. i'm thinking it would be very subtle light but still fit my original idea.

coupled with a Zalman FC-ZV9 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-025-ZA (yar fatality again), i have the copper zalman right now so i know the oerformance is good, but i'd like to waste some money on the red light version i guess.

one of the new zalman coolers would be ideal i reackon : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-027-ZA except it's green :/ omg why not make a red one to :*( is red zalman stuff reserved for Wendel? aaarrrgg

oioi i see one here : http://www.zalman.co.kr/images/product_img/cooling/ZE1_01.jpg

hmm but i cant buy it seperate

i'll just point out that i have a Sythe ninja with an Amber stuck on the side and it looks fugly through the window. hence the thouhgts for replacing it. although i've got a freekin unopened Tuniq tower next to me that i havent got around to opening, but that just looks big and black and not exactly stunning to look at through the window. christ i wish i would stop getting these great ideas i have

yar it's a great idea :)
do you think it would be better to use white cathodes to start with? i'm guessing it would just mean adding another layer or 2 or red film :/

I'm not sure about starting with a white cathode, I have a feeling then any red colour produced would be whatever JUST the film looks like illuminated, which I have no experience of.
My red cathode is half the perceived brightness of my blue one, by the same brand akasa but it has the bonus that when you put red film over it it integrates nicely to make a different kind of red...
Depends how bright the white cathode is, where are you sourcing one from out of interest?

ended up with the zalman cpu cooler, and a sharkoon led fake cathode thingy. turned out ok, it's no-where near as bright as the pics, it was just dark and a longish exposure. so sry for the bad qual pics to :o

there is an 80mm fan in the HDD bay, which lights up the grill nicely.

apologies to the cable nazis to, cant seem to get the cables to stick up at the top out of the way. i have no spare bays either :/

If you have some cable ties you can easily get that stuck to the top.

Looking quite tasteful for a change, don't mind that and I usually hate LED systems.

Nice job.

cheers Yewen

i'm not sure about the cpu fan tho. it was way too dark with the sticker on the fan, but taking the sticker off means you have those 2 big led's shining too much IMHO. maybe some kind of frosting might take the edge of it.

i'll have a proper bash at the cables soon.

i'm still toying with the idea of putting a 120mm fan in the window grill. i think my gfx cards would appreciate it.

You can get some type of clear tape, not very sticky but probably has some proper use. I have some in my draw will see if it has any markings on it.

It removes the bright light and makes a glow, its semi transparent stuff and is perfect for what you need. Someone else may be able to provide the name of it.

Wolla, get to a newsagents or stationary shop and get some of that, should be exactly what you are after.

legend, thanks :D

i just dont like the 'in-your-face-burn-yor-retinas' LED's. which unfortunately the zalman fan controller has aswell. i plan on replacing the fan controller facia with something that has no writing or logos on it, and i'll look into replacing the leds to. either that or get out a perminant marker and colour it in ;) :D

The tape is perfect for putting over LEDs. :p

I have it on my cradle for my Axim X50v and have used it on my old HiFi before, works a treat as it turns it from a light into a little glow.

Cheap botch fix I know, but if a fan is spinning there is no chance anyone could notice it, you could also cut the tape well which would be much better still but that would take time. :p

pftt couldnt find the stuff you had, i went to stationary box, staples, b&q and even halfords looking for tape all i could find was this:

which is low adhesive, matte finish, semi transparent stuff. still i had high hopes. seems like the LED's are just too bright, and one layer seemed to make no difference. ended up putting 3 layers on the fan (cross hatched the tape 3x3 with 3 laters, drew around an aerosol cap, and cut it out). result is slightly dissapointing - the LED's still shine through quite bright, and beacuse of the number of layers, it's turning more white, which i dont want. i'm too fussy i guess.

will be able to tell better tonight when it is dark.

Mine is very thick and blurred when you look through it, impossible to make out any detail.

Never used that stuff as I honestly just found it in a draw in the kitchen months back.

Does seem a little poor that, try it at night and see how it goes otherwise I will have to do a bit of thinking. :)

From that picture it appears to be blurring the LEDs but only slightly, nothing like what the stuff I have does.

Hi guys Just wanna say if you head over to my mod page on pcapex i've done it againg but with a blue cathode would like to know what you guys think,

cheers

panic did you ever play DF:BHD??

and nice mods by the way, i walways wanted a red and black system but everything just comes with blue lights. so ill just stick to it lol.i would try getting some red perspex and sanding it with a course sandpaper so that it was more opaque and then double sided taping it to the fan, but that would offset the spinning and make it vibrate if it wasnt perfectly centre!

Russ.

nice idea! :)

actually i just changed my cpu to an x6800 and i ditched the zalman cooler for the Tuniq Tower that ive had for months. the zalman just wasn't performing as i'd like thb. it looks nice and all, but not an overclocking cooler IMHO.

regarding DFBHD, yeah i used to play, familiar with http://www.novahq.net/ at all? it's Steve the admin here :)
