Good Cheap Server - HP Proliant Microserver 4 BAY - OWNERS THREAD

There is a couple of videos on youtube of the N40L which shows it in its entirety. You might wanna hit the mute button though as the mans voice is sickening.

Hey,

FreeNAS question; can I just map the FreeNAS volume as a "Network" drive in My Computer. Can I save/open/copy/edit etc. files on that network drive as if it were a local drive? This is what I want :)

Cheers,

Suman

Yep, that will work just fine.

Sweet - could someone recommend a decent USB drive to run this from please? Fast and reliable is a must - don't mind paying a premium. Had a few OCZ ones fail on me, so a bit wary of them...

Also, can someone please tell me the exact make/model of the RAM which the unit comes with please?

Cheers,

Su

Could someone help me please. I've searched forums and googled slimline bay adapters without really finding anything in stock anywhere.

I'm trying to find a 5.25" drive bay adapter for my N40L that will allow me to have a slimline DVD drive and 3.5" HDD fitted together in the top slot of the server.

Most of what I've found so far is located in the US with high prices or out of stock in the UK.

Many thanks in advance.

Look through the thread and you will find the model number of the one somebody used.

Well I love the Microserver. However I think I'm going to be getting rid of WHS 2011.

It just doesn't seem to do anything amazing or tie in well with other computers.

There's no Media Center on it, so while it can store all my media, I can't use my 360 with Media Center but instead the lackluster video player. Setting up a iTunes server seems like a lot of hassle when others make it easy. I'm still setting things up to run as a service or task schedule. The dashboard is a great idea but doesn't really offer much. I'm trying to think of good points but it really hasn't brought anything new to the table. I'm quite bummed out tbh.

So I'm going to try something else and hope it's nice and simple.

Probably been posted already, but this is pretty awesome..

5.25" to 6 x 2.5" hot swap HDD bay adapter... gives up to another 6TB I guess??! :D

Got a question for all who are using the ODD bay for HDD(s)!
Do you use the hacked bios to enable the "full speed" in the SATA port and/or eSATA port?
(Even in the n40l model)?
