Should work fine like that.
Why do you even have a blu-ray drive in your server?
to rip my Blurays to MKV, Macbook Air has no drive

I'm using a 1.5TB external as well but if the thing restarts then i have to unplug the usb drive and boot as it tried to boot from the external.
You can change the boot order in the bios, so you can restart and it will never try to boot from the external drive again.
WIll have a look, i'm sure i done it before but ened up trying to boot again.
Open the door and give the harddrives caddies a little wiggle, sometimes mine get themselves in a position that they vibrate.
Thanks.
You got any idea on how to control permissions via IP addresses like to only allow certain computers IP addresses access and controlling permissions on how they access so they can or can't modify files?
Thanks again!
Or even by computers on the network, like only allow these computers and nothing else access, I'm using WHS 2011.
Ok so my micro server arrived (yay) and so did my RAM and SSD. I have installed the RAM successfully but not the SSD (need to order some cables). I wanted to just install windows server 2008 R2 onto the 250GB HDD until I can sort out the SSD and get it connected up but I am having some problems doing this.
When I turn the machine on it successfully recognises the extra RAM but after that it displays the following message:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting HP PXE ROM
I don't understand why this happens, I have googled the error but haven't come up with any results that I understand. I have used the these instructions to create a bootable USB stick with windows server 2008 R2, which I have then inserted into the internal USB port on the motherboard.
I have gone into the BIOS settings and under Boot > Boot Settings I have the following:
USB Device Boot Priority [High]
Embedded NIC Port 1 Control [Enabled]
Wake-On LAN [Enabled]
If I go further into Boot Device Priority I have
1st Boot Device [USB: Sony Storage M]
2nd Boot Device [Network: MBA v14.0.]
Under Hard Disk Drives I have
1st Drive [USB: Sony Storage M]
2nd Drive [HDD0-VB0250EAVER]
This to me seems correct as I want it to boot from usb stick so I can install server 2008 from the USB onto the HDD. I tried disabling the Network MBA under boot device priority after reading that the error I am getting is caused by it not finding a boot device on the network but this caused the error to change and display "Missing operating system". I have also checked that all the cables are connected securely.
I am still trying a few things but if anyone can help me here it would probably save me several hours and would be much appreciated.
I have had my N36L for well over a year now and I just use it for storage and testing. I want to use it for playing mkv's. My server has 8Gb of Ram with a 1GB 6450 card installed connected to my 42" Panny via HDMI running on Server 2008.
I have tried playing mkv's from 8GB in size up to 16GB 1080 and I suffer from stuttering which makes it impossible to watch. mkv's around 1-3Gb etc work fine but its the bigger ones that I have problems with.
I have read a few posts across the net with people stating the likes of vlc player and XBMC is a waste of time when playing 1080P mkv's and some are recommending CCCP and Boxee. Also you need to enable DXVA.
Can I ask if you guys have had similar problems and can recommend ways of getting 1080 mkv's to work?
Or is it just a case that the Microserver just can't hack it even though some people seem to get it working if you can believe them?
Cheers.
