I just went to the post office to collect mine because I didnt hear the door this morning.
I also had a UPS and a gigabit switch too. Im just so glad it was only a short walk down the road to collect because carrying all 3 boxes was awkward and heavy.

I am just installing WHS 2011 on it now then I have to go to work so wont be able to properly play with it until tonight (and when my network cables get here)

I am going to be using it as a file server to store all my media and also to do backups of my pc and laptop.

I am sticking 3 2tb hdds in it but they are full of my films and tv shows.

Just a quick question will the data on the 3 hdds be deleted by WHS 2011 when I put them in?

Thinking of getting my micro-server to run one of the TV's wondering what graphics card is a good option for this? I will also somehow need a 3.5mm headphone out for the sound due to it being in my room and i like to watch tv at night without keeping people awake.

Also i am planning to run it lying on its side so it fits in my TV stand, aslong as it has air-flow this wouldnt be a problem would it?

Help would be appreciated.

6450/5450 are both the common choices.
Sound maybe look at the LP version of the Asus Xonar DG.

Would'nt expect it being sideways to be a problem tbh, only if you were intending on using a DVD/BR drive.

Thanks for your reply, It doesn't have an optical drive as it has no need for one. I will look into the graphics cards you have mentioned. Thanks :)

Just make sure the gfx comes with a LP bracket.
Ask in the CS section and as long as the boxes aren't sealed in some way I'm sure they would check for you :)

As for the sound could i simply get a Cheap USB to headphone dongle thingy? It is simply for watching tv through headphones so doesnt need anything fancy.

OR one of these http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SC-012-AS&groupid=701&catid=11&subcat=

But does the Microserver support having two things like that in it at once?

Is there any reason you can't just plug headphones into your TV (which is getting sound and video via HDMI from the Microserver)?

Has anyone put OpenElec and XBMC on the N40L?

(Not sure if it is the same as XBMC Live?)

Basically am tempting to shift away from Windows Home Server 2011 also boot it from the internal usb port via a flash drive.

Wonder if someone can help me please? I a,m trying to put windows 2008 r2 on this and I've not tried it before

I made a USB stick with the windows tool and it boots, says starting windows with the swirly graphic then blue screens. 0x lots of 0s 7e. I've tried changing from acpi to ide but still the same

I got it running on mine, no idea what's going on with yours!!

Have you tried installing anything else?

yes I've had ESXi on a USB stick and XBMC live on another USB stick running on it for months. Did you install Windows from a USB drive or DVD?

More than once, but with a DVD each time!!! Just save yourself the hassle and try with a internal or external DVD drive.
