Good Cheap Server - HP Proliant Microserver 4 BAY - OWNERS THREAD

Do you think it would be worth using the Server 2012 RC, and buying 2012 when its released opposed to buying 2011 now?

I know that the main change is basically the interface, but thought i'd gather opinions.

There are some massive changes betwene 2011 and 2012. For me the choice is between WHS v1 and 2012 - v2011 doesn't work for me because of these:

* Cant have a share folder bigger than 2TB
* Limited size of Client backup folder to 2TB (in v1, the size of my client backups is 2.6TB, mostly from one of the machines with multiple hard disks - cant back that one up on v2011).
* can't even complete a backup, if client uses EUFI bios. (Which is baffling, since v1 works.)

Other people may not care about those, but they are essential for me.

Not sure if this has been posted ?

Came across a pdf guide on building a media server and from a quick scan it looks pretty detailed.

"Build the ultimate media system with your HTPC using OpenELEC, XBMC and PseudoTV. This manual covers everything from hardware, OpenELEC Installation, File Management, XBMC Scraping, Preparing an awesome channel setup and also covers PseudoTV extensively. This is the definitive guide for HP ProLiant MicroServer owners or anyone who wants to turn their HTPC into a media dream-machine. Easy to understand and scattered with loads of helpful hints and tips."

Thought it might be handy to some folk.

anyone tried 8gb samsung green in a microserver? I've got a spare set sitting unused that I bought when was on offer and was thinking of using it in the server

The Samsung stuff can be run at super low voltages at 1333mhz though, so it'll shave a few watts off the power usage.

I'm struggling to find those Nexus DoubleTwin mounts in stock anywhere

What's the name of the other simular bracket?

Thanks

Nexus Double Twin
Feser Silent Arrow (seems to be States only)
Noise Blocker NB-X-Swing (seems to be discontinued)

I recently ordered 4 Nexus Double-Twin brackets from the only site I could find them but am still awaiting delivery some week on.

That reminds me, I must chase that up.

so i got mine this morning, added 8GB RAM and a 520 GT. Just put a clean install of Windows 7 Pro on, windows updated it. Ive noticed the Sleep option in the menu is greyed out? Ive tried updating graphics card to the latest but still greyed out. any ideas?

Wish windows 8 would hurry up so I can get my hands on the storage pools.

I know I could install now but dont want to have to re do it later
