Good Cheap Server - HP Proliant Microserver 4 BAY - OWNERS THREAD

Just got my second Microserver for £75. Too cheap to let slid away.
Playing with HP VSA atm to get some shared storage working when I add vcentre to the setup.

Been reading up on it, can only find lists for the N40L - http://n40l.wikia.com/wiki/Memory

I'm going for this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-098-KS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1516

Either 4Gb or 8Gb, haven't decided yet but as 8Gb isn't much more expensive, i may as well.

There's some on that list for £30 for 8GB. £25 cheaper than the memory you are looking at.

Not from OcUK there isn't (i don't think).
I always buy RAM and hard drives from places with decent customer support given the chance of failure.

Can someone confirm whether I'll be able to use the Nexus double twin using the StarTech 5.25in Trayless Hot Swap Mobile Rack for 3.5in Hard Drive?

For the sixth drive, will another Molex Power to SATA cable and additional SATA cable be required? If someone can confirm this, I think I'm going to fork out the cash and buy the final (6th) drive once I get home from work tonight!

I must admit, I'm thoroughly impressed with the ability to add a total of six hard drives. When I first purchased my HP ProLiant server, I thought I'd 'only' have four slots! :)

Damn! Ah well.. thanks for clearing that one up! :)

What about the cables? I'm assuming I'm going to be requiring two of everything?

A molex to 2 x SATA Y-splitter will cover the power with a right angled SATA cable (if memory serves correct) and an eSATA - SATA cable will sort you out in terms of cabling.

Doh!
The onboard "controller" doesn't support SAS. I assumed it did as it uses a Mini-SAS connector and cable to the drive cage. :(

Now need to get a cheap SAS RAID card that will support 4 drives.
