Good Cheap Server - HP Proliant Microserver 4 BAY - OWNERS THREAD

Thanks, I've order the "kit".

A bit late but in case you still wondered - I used that same kit, and I believe the fan was a 3-pin but I followed the instructions and it worked perfectly...

However I did find there were a few details in the instructions in that post which weren't entirely clear (to me), so somewhere in this thread I had a post which went into a little more detail explaining what I did. Just in case you want to look it up

Installed the new fans, CPU temp in the BIOS is 57c, I think it was about 43c before.

What is everyone else getting with the NoiseBlocker fans?

Where did you get the display? I ordered the one mentioned earlier in the thread but it never came, apparently it's no longer made.

Good to know as I was about to order one... :(

with yours did you use the blanking plate from the server? or did it come with one?

Use the one with server. Drill it and file it smooth the double sided sticky tape it to back. I split the display from usb controller board with a few bits from maplins. So it fits better

I can't use the one from the server, I've seemingly misplaced it

Anyone running Plex in an ESX VM on any of these? I want to move Plex off my desktop onto a VM. I'm trying to find the most lightweight way of doing it which I thought would be Arch Linux but I am having issues getting Plex to run.

I run Plex through Xpenology in an ESXi VM. It runs great.

If I remember correctly, Arch Linux can be a bit obtuse. Maybe try an easier distro such as Mint LXDE.

Yep, running it on an Ubuntu Server VM.
I tested it on an Ubuntu Desktop first. I'm no linux expert, so being able to use a GUI while I got my head around creating shares, installing plex media server, sabnzbd, getting them to start at startup, etc was a useful safety blanket.
Once I had it figured out I recreated what I'd done on ubuntu server.

The worst thing I found, and still just give up and use gparted is partitioning. It's so bloody obtuse on Linux it drives me crazy.

I managed to get Arch to play ball. I tested a basic SD episode of Peppa Pig and tried seeking to about half way though. It took about 30 seconds before it started playing video again. Watching a linux 'top' showed the transcode process getting hammered. I could give the VM another vCPU to see if this helps. I can't see it making a big difference though. Server is a N54L.
