Good Cheap Server - HP Proliant Microserver 4 BAY - OWNERS THREAD

Yeah HP is now a pain in the backside for updates, grrrrrrr!

If you're buying a new Microserver you should be OK for the first year though if memory serves.

Just wanted to check what you people are using on your Gen 8s as i'm thinking about changing OS on it.
Currently running VMware with Xpenology 5.2 running a plex server with 3tb of films and that's it. I would like to add some CCTV support to it as well but the only problem is that i cannot upgrade to DSM 6.0 (at least with my knowledge)

Anything you'd recommend? The cheaper the better.

Well after putting my Torrent VM on the N40L, even with an SSD for the server itself (S2016), 16Gb of RAM and an SSD for the VM's to sit on its still too slow..

Think I'll be moving the Torrent VM back to the Gen8 and the N40L will be retired..

could this be used to host a website on iis asp.net, using something like no-ip for the dns?

can you just use windows 10 pro or do you need windows server?

I had the optical drive in mine but managed to get 2x SSD's in the gap under the optical bay, just had to move a few cables around.
Theres also a guy in the states that sells drive brackets that allow you to fit 4x 2.5" drives between the PSU and side of the case..

I found the cables adequately hold an SSD in place against the various bit of metalwork. The one thing you will need is an FDD-to-SATA power adapter but these are available from the auction site.
