Good Cheap Server - HP Proliant Microserver 4 BAY - OWNERS THREAD

Can you fit 2 ssds into one hdd slot with an adaptor?

I'm kinda musing with faliing ssd prices
There is a seller on that auction site who 3D prints SSD bay kits for the Gen8. The drive holder is mounted near the PSU and can hold 2 x 2.5 inch drives. You would still need some sort of extra SATA card for more ports and power but the option is there.

Physically yes but there is only 1 drive connector / slot?

Yes, but there's 2.5inch to USB adaptors available. So maybe 2 of these cables into another that connects to the hdd port in one if the 4 slots.

Hey it could work...

You probably would be better off looking at a 2.5" drive adaptor for the 5.25" bay and then opting for a PCI sata card or using the ODD + eSata ports (need modded Bios i believe).

I'll have al ook at that

I've seen that. Might be a future project.

Which gen microserver?
Gen8

Just building a NAS as a gift for a buddy from one of these and I’m not having any joy with any of the 16gb ECC sticks I have.

Are the Gen 8 systems limited to 2x8gb of ECC U-DIMMS?

Zero luck getting 32gb to work. I’m sure I’ve had 32gb running on a C202 chipset no problem…

Super frustrating, is I have two 16gb kits, but can only find the one that’s 4x4gb.

The Gen 8 Microserver will only ever run on 16Gb, the confusion comes when people say, as above, that the C202 chipset supports 32Gb, which is fine, but that's over 4 slots, the Gen8 only has 2, hence why it can only run 16Gb..

I very vaguely remember something to do with drivers causing this, but the thread I'm thinking of was on .Reset/HSS which doesn't exist anymore, perhaps STH might be a better place to ask as I know a lot of the old .Reset/HSS lot are active on there.

I need advice?

My Hp gen8 Expenology server (DSM 7.1) lost power due to a home power trip. When I tried to reboot, my network didn’t show the server.
I looked online, read about cmos battery issues, I found my battery was indeed flat, so I swapped out for a new one, and still the server wasn’t recognized by the network.

So I connected a monitor to the gen8, powered up.

The photos below are what the server is showing.

I have 10tb of data on the other 3 drives, that I’m worried I’ve lost.
(may I add, the 3 data drives are not in RAID, but all BASIC configuration, so all singular volumes)

Can anybody point me in the direction of a solution?

I’ve tried installing a new usb loader and DSM (on a fresh flash/HD). This booted up good, but the other 3 drives shown up has new drives to be initialized.
I unplugged everything, and installed the original hard drive and flash drive.

Still nothing.

Is there a solution to recover the data?

I'm still running an ancient N54L G7, I'll probably jinx it now but it's been ticking over 24/7 as a media server for the last 10 years. Its running Windows Server 2019 and Drive Bender for data pooling but I've just found out that Drive Bender is no longer in development/supported.

What is everyone here using for drive management on their Windows Homeservers?

I'd also like to replace the hardware itself but seems the newer HP Microservers are stupidly expensive compared to what the G7/8 machines were, any alternatives?

I upgraded from n40l to g8. I upgraded the cpu and felt was a big upgrade in performance. I would suggest to see if you can get a cheap gen8
