Good Cheap Server - HP Proliant Microserver 4 BAY - OWNERS THREAD

IP address not changed I can get the login screen, then it says username or password is wrong
I always write my usernames and passwords in a little book and have not changed it on the box
Weird thing is I can still see the files via windows network
Assuming not something simple like Caps lock, or perhaps Keyboard layout has changed with a windows update and moved any special characters (assuming you have any in your password)

No special characters,I even copy pasted from text to make sure
I may end up having to copy the 20+ TB od stuff to a temp couple of HDDs and reinstall

Got access to ilo finally but cannot see anything to help me :(

Is it just users you cannot log in with?
Can you login as root from cmd, or as "admin" (or root) from Xpenology?

I think maybe i found the culprit
Tried on a different pc and noticed adblock app was lit up.disabled it and it worked.
Will need to try on the other 2 pcs....fingers crossed for tomorrow

update no luck on main pc or DL pc :(
at least as far as last night i have access on htpc
LATEST Update
Got access back again
It was in settings/security/autoblock
looks like it was set to block ip adresses after a small amount of fails Permanently,

Are we providing technical support for pirated versions of Synology software now? Just given they are/have been an OCUK parter and the Xpenology thread was nuked on here long ago, I took it that piracy was piracy.

I am running 2 Gen8`s with Xpenology on both
For some reason box 1 will not let me log in via browser,i can see the files via windows network but cannot control the Gen8 to do anything
How can i regain control please.got all my disc backups on this one and is gonna be a pain to rerip :(
Are other services still up and working (SSH etc)?
I had this with a crashed RAID years ago where the web UI wouldn't display; pulled drives until it booted and then tried to repair it all. Ended up moving away to Unraid and (official) Synology's as i kept having issues with Xpenology on my N54L.
Worth posting on the Xpenology forums though, as you'll get better help.

See my above edit.got it sorted and included my fix:)

My ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 has started to report:
Code:
Embedded Flash/SD-CARD Controller firmware revision 2.10.00 Embedded media manager failed initialization
in iLO.

Anything to worry about? I came across this which is a similar error but I don't have the
Code:
Format Embedded Flash and reset iLO
option. I used to have a micro SD card in but that was awhile ago.

A cold boot hasn't got rid of the message either.

Think it might be something to do with having the SD card acting as a boot disk at one point which isn't needed now and it seems to boot from the SSD in the ODD port fine.

It's a known fault, only option is to replace the MB as far as I'm aware - suffered the same. iLO still worked fine but SSA was borked. The failure doesn't stop you administering the RAID array or booting, it just makes things more difficult. Have a read here for a similar experience: https://op-co.de/blog/posts/microserver_gen8_fix_boot_order/

Thanks. Good to know its common I guess but no so good that its a MB replacement. Will check that link out.

I fired up my N36L microserver the other day for the first time in about 5 years and was plesently surprised to see it still going strong
I am so happy every time I pop in here to see the thread still near the top. Mines on the sub bench at the moment with no projects for it.

My gen8 also has the internal flash failure, no longer have access to the smart storage setup features.
Still running strong though with Omv.
My n36L gen7 also going strong too. Though was tempted to get rid as it's just sat there barely being turned on more than a few times a year.

Have the n54L and still trucking along, I need to build a new NAS on some SAS drives I got but will need a new enclosure as not going to fit in the n54

Still using mine to host Plex - too slow for transcoding though!
You shouldn't need to transcode locally unless you did something wrong earlier in the workflow/network/client selection. Move Plex and whatever media management services/downloaders you have off to an N100 box or similar, combine with a PlexPass for hardware transcoding (or use JellyFin), then use the HP for pure storage, and the world is a much nicer place.

I'm still running Plex on an N40L without the plex pass (so no hardware transcoding) and find it plays back fine on most devices I try it on. Obviously depends on source material but never really had an issue playing back on phones/tablets or TV.
