'Good' food

Only thing i microwave is that cheaaaap sainsburys Whitefish portions, like 97p for a box of 4 cod fish portions, add microwave chips and its a decent meal. I buy boxes of those uber cheap 27p 10 fish fingers too :D

id wouldjust like to put this into perspective! there is vast gulf between butchers and supermarkets. most of which i am not going to get into now as i am sure we all know the points. however i run a shop on a farm selling local and organic foods. I can assure you there is vitually no money to be made in this line we do it because we believe in what we sell, unlike s/markets.

Its great to see ppl making an effort with their food, good for you penski, you clearly are an accomplished cook and like to prepare and spend them time and see the enjoyment on ppls faces when they eat your wares!!
I get all my fresh produce from Abel & Cole (like you, but on t'internet, and they deliver in London), and Borough Market.

It may cost more, but I console myself with the fact that I am supporting a way of life, and not succumbing to some mass produced and bland food existence.

Tonight's menu:

1st course: Bruscetta and some toasted ciabatta slices, each with a whole mushroom, bit of crushed garlic, slight sprinkle of shallots and cracked pepper, topped with a slice of Jarlsberg and melted under the grill. (one bruscetta and one mushroom thingy each).

2nd course: pan-fried scallops with lime and a small potato rosti thingy

3rd course: homemade tagliatelle with the pancetta/tomato/chilli sauce

4th course: a small bit of monkfish on a bed of Patatas Bravas

5th course: baked lime cheesecake (like a Key Lime Pie...almost...)

Cheeses: (inspired by that 'illegal cheese' article a few weeks back) some nice, ripe Brie, blue and white stilton, Jarlsberg, strong cheddar and Port Salut for the unambitious, served with ubergrainy rolls.

Plus copious amounts of wine.

:D

Sounds fantastic!

I've acquired a strange passion for cooking lately, I think due to the large amount of cooking shows on TV coupled with the fact I'm getting older.

A few days ago i hand checked 1.25 tonnes of ribs.

its amazing how much it costs on that scale, yet how much it costs when it gets to the supermarkets ;)

I'm quite chuffed at the number of people on here that actually cook food rather than just reheat crap.

Looks like a fine menu you got there Penski :)

Sounds fantastic :) Like the structure of the meal there.

I don't know why but whenever I'm cooking a proper meal, I like to finish with something that has hints of one of the first dishes.

Anyhoo - I'm about to get stuck in, people are arriving at about seven. I need to tidy, put the tables out et cetera. If the weather had held from this morning, we could have eaten outside...

Well that was never gonna happen - but I hope you enjoy your meal anyway :)

Does sound lovely, although it has a few too many veg and not enough meat for my liking :p
