sounds like a baaaad idea to me mate. the gesture of taking her to NYC for a romantic trip for 2 will be enough to show that you love her. getting engaged is BS tbh. it doesnt mean anything.
I am really thinking about applying for a job at a few places and hopefully if i get one, putting away 50% of my wages to fun a trip for two to NYC for i and my girl, and then asking her to get engaged.
I am 18, been with her 14 months and shes 'a member of the family' now, so if it works out and say 'i got a job in 2 weeks' it would only take me a few months and the shopping spree would be on the way.
Good luck with it all tbh. I got married at 22 and my wife was 19. Still happily married. We had a short engagement, which imho is the best as it doesn't drag out and you still get to enjoy it.
There is no "too young to get married age" either. But you need to be sure your both ready for the commitment and what it means and that you realise you would both have to spend the rest of your lives working hard to enrich your marriage and keep it together. Marriage's split up across the whole age range, just becuase your young isn't the issue. My brother in law and his wife met at 16, married young and are now in their 30's and still very happy. I know loads of people who got married in their late teens or early 20s and they are doing just fine.
But if you want to get engaged you need to want to get married otherise there is little point as it waters down the whole essence of it.
