Good Load Temp with E6300?

I'm on stock voltage right now and overclocked to about 2.6 ghz. I got a Arctic Cooler and right now, using Orthos, my temp's are averaging about 56 degrees. I'm going to try and get it to 2.8 Ghz by the end of the day. What sort of temp limit should I be looking at before I stop?

I've seen some people with temps in the 70's but I think I'd be worried if my temps were this high. Below 60 would probably be a good measure, but I'd definitely try to stay below 70.

I'm currently hitting a max temp of 45 running orthos with my new build - see sig

Is the Tuniq that much better than the AC 7 Freezer Pro? £20 more and it's 15-20 degrees cooler?? Or are you using other fans? Cause the only other fan I have is right behind my AC7, blowing the air out. I have no intake fans.

phyre, i have a 6300 which also seems to run hotter in TAT compared to other models. i would imaging with the maybe little extra voltage needed for 3ghz you shouldnt see temps over 65 which considering your computer wont run at 100% on both cores very often is fine.

i'd be interested to know what temps CoreTemp gives you though.

If those temps are obtained from Coretemp or TAT then you should get to 2.8 without to many problems. If you are using a motherboard monitoring program like Asus probe to obtain the temps then you need to add about 10c to the temp you quoted.
The TT120 is a great cooler but it probably wont improve your temps dramatically, I have tried a ACF7, Scythe Ninja and TT120 and found very little difference between them. I am currently using the ninja as it offers the best cooling for the noise levels out of the 3. My e6300 is currently at 3.1 at stock volts with a max load temp of 56 (coretemp)

I see. Well I'm using CoreTemp right now and I just upped the overclock to 2.8GHz (I know, my impatience will be my downfall). I'm running Orthos again and the temps are 55-58 degrees. I just loaded up TAT as well and it's saying the 2nd core is running at a few degrees lower than the first core.. Is that normal??

If you only have one exhaust fan, and no intake fans, I'd suggest adding an intake fan. My case does have 4 x 120mm intakes and 5 x 120mm exhausts, and with it being so big, theres LOADS of airspace in it for a good airflow.

The Tuniq was consistently the best air cooler in the reviews I've read, and Anandtech use it on their test setups. Plus it was less than £30 last week on OcUK, so it was a no brainer

Having good airflow through the case is just as important as the HSF you use, you can often see a greater improvement by increasing the case cooling than by getting a better HSF.
The Tuniq is a great cooler and at last weeks prices it was a good buy but at max speed it is noisy, I just thought in my case (Akasa Mirage) that the Ninja offered the best performance.

70c full load? geez id keep it no higher than 60c and imo thats even pushing it

I agree, it is a bit noisy on full. I'm thinking about putting a Scythe S-Flex 1600rpm in it to quieten it down.

Will a scythe fan at 1600 be any quieter than the tuniq fan at 1600? I cannot see any real gain in changing it.

The Scythe S-Flex uses the S-FDB bearings, which are supposed to be a lot quieter!

i have the 800rpm version which comes with the Kama Bay cooler. Silent = yes, CFM = no

My e6600 @ 3.6ghz 1.43V reaches 70C when running TAT, it's around 68C in orthos. However, I've never seen another application that makes my cpu that hot at load. So it's all good.

Idle is around 33C.

And conroe procesors should be realy fine up to 80, eaven though i wouldnt recommend it but thats what the manufactures said

My e6300 @3.4ghz never goes above 55C in Orthos in a room with a temp of 22C. Idles in the mid 20s.

For an example of how much good airflow can affect the CPU temperature I just tried switching the power cables of my fans so they weren't all on the one "fan only" cable. This boosted their speed roughly 2x what they were running but was quite noisy.

I went from 48C on my E6300 @ 2.03 to 42C. That's with DC Orthos after 5 minutes to let the case heat up both times. My graphics temps also dropped roughly 3C too. If I ever need that extra 6C temp drop I know where to look now!

btw my case is the Antec Titan with 2x80mm input fans and 1x120mm output. I'm looking at cutting a hole in the side to put another 120mm output fan in.

I don't know. It is an OEM version so I can't refer to the box and I don't particularly fancy disassembling my PC to have a look at the moment. I'm not aware of any other way to tell, other than looking on the CPU itself?
