Norrbotten, Sweden.
Not much criteria but.

Travelling march 2024, it might be cold to normal people but not us reindeer herders.

Price conscious..... A good balance between rating, location, and cost.
3 står probably, breakfast Inc but not deal-breaker

When we travel we basically use the room and hotel as a base. Amenities on site unimportant. Pools gyms etc. Meh.
Location to a subway probably the key.

That means it doesn't have to be in Manhattan. But for a good price deffo take it.
Private bathroom must
Charmless Chain hotels are fine.

Price i guess is key

Less than 20k krona which about 1500 quid.

Doable for ten days? 8 days maybe ?

Me too! Who’s going in the corner and who’s going on the ends?

Manhattan wise I was finding it all over the place for price per night. We’ve picked a place between MSG and Empire State Building which was about £180 a night I think

That seems to be the going rate tbh.
I always like trying to find a bargain or little bit qwirky but I think this will just have to be. With 2k on flights 2k on hotels 2k on tips and 2k spending gonna hurt :p 2k on tips was hopefully a joke.

… must admit, I’m starting to get a little put off by the chillier weather - has anyone on here endured March in NYC before? It hopefully wasn’t too grim…?

Rui Plaza for me.

Thread from earlier in the year.

I've been at the start of April in 2019, and it was perfect weather. Like T-shirt and a light jacket weather.

It might be a touch colder in March but I would expect a coat would be fine.

Who are you guys flying with?

We obviously chose SAS direct from Stockholm... It's a few hundred cheaper than from Gatwick or Heathrow.....

I liked the look of Norse air, old Norwegian, but it's not even cheap on premium economy.

Flights got very meh.

I went with BA package deal. 4 nights inc flights Heathrow to Newark and was about £1600

I’ve been to St Louis Feb time years back and found it was all over the place. Landed to about 0c, mid week we had 20c one day then back to 10c when leaving. I’m planning for it being Baltic given it’s in the coast.

Have a look at hotels in Greenpoint, you can get a boat taxi to Manhattan and various other locations, I stayed with family there, so can't comment on hotel prices but did see some about. Was relatively quick to get to Manhattan once I knew the boat timetable, Presume there was a tube as well but didn't use that.

In case it’s if any interest, you can get return BA business class return flights to NYC for 2 for £700 (£350 per person) and 160-180k avios points if you use an Amex companion voucher.

You can pay an extra £1100ish for first class and similar points (£900 person).

Requires a fat stack of points of course.

We stayed in the ArLo SoHo in July this year which was a lovely hotel.

I was surprised just how expensive hotels are on Manhattan. Whilst the ArLo was a lovely hotel with a rooftop bar and is quite trendy inside the rooms were tiny and it was really expensive.

yes - been numerous times over the years to visit family - Feb/March can be VERY cold.... I mean baltic. Depends on the weather fronts at the time but think it was 2018 and they had a ton of snow.

Can also be very nice/cool weather. It's very extreme at times in NYC

Just done this in the summer. Think it was 2 companion vouchers (family of 4) - 280k points and £1200. Had a stack of points, and worth doing once in your life with the kids etc. Lovely experience.

Not sure on cost, but we have stayed at The Plaza on Central Park South a few times. Amazing location, right near the subway, central park, and a large shopping centre on the west corner of Central Park which has a great salad bar to put lunch together for the day.
