Good New York hotels.....details inside.

Have a look at hotels in Greenpoint, you can get a boat taxi to Manhattan and various other locations, I stayed with family there, so can't comment on hotel prices but did see some about. Was relatively quick to get to Manhattan once I knew the boat timetable, Presume there was a tube as well but didn't use that.
Although it was 10 years ago, I also stayed in Greenpoint at the Box House, a boutique hotel. We had a duplex loft apartment for 4 people which was reasonably-priced at the time. Their regular rooms are currently around £180 per night based on a sample 8-10 night check for March. I thought it was a very pleasant option, and it still seems to be well-regarded (4.5 TripAdvisor, 8.6 Booking.com). Article about it (a few years old).

It's an easy journey across to Manhattan; the East River ferry terminal and subway are both around 8-10 mins walk.

I appreciated being out of the hustle and bustle and you get some great views across the river. Both Greenpoint and Williamsburg were quite charming, and I enjoyed strolling down to Williamsburg Bridge.

Never walked so much in my life as on that trip though!

Is that the hotel near to the bridge, I stayed in an apartment down that very same street with family when I visited, they no longer live there now. Walked across the bridge to train station or ferry to Manhattan.

Yes, on Box Street, adjacent to the Pulaski Bridge which crosses over into Long Island City.

early April

Im updating this for myself and starting to get a few "things to do" together"

We ending up booking a hotel just across the Hudson in New Jersey. $200 a night for a "decent" by my standard 3 star? modern hotel.

Hyatt House New Jersey Tripadvisor

You get a lot more room for your $ but the inconvenience/advantage? is not slap bang in town and only a quick ride on the PATH to World trade center or the other way upto 33rd street. Then you can connect to whatever you want.

We also have a "Day trip" to Washington DC 3h on the train... not too bad.... See all the regular sights and Smithsonian aerospace museum for a couple of hours lol back home on a 8pm train... Gonna be very long day....

Booked a couple of shows.

Back to the future the musical..... (for me) Could be good? and Harry potter and something something. Wife business, she **** herself with joy at doing this so who am i to say no :p

Bought a NYC pass 10days Probably going to go to pretty much everything on the list..... all the normal places..

Also going in April, that day pass for major attractions etc? I might get whatever pass there is for using the subway.

As for Back to the Future - I got a bargain priced ticket from a friend and went with him, it wasn't up there the likes of The Lion King/Wicked/Book of Mormon but I rather enjoyed it.

How early does the Washington train leave? Day trip to another city doesn't sound too bad especially with the temptation of visiting an aerospace museum.

The pass thing worked out at like $40 a day which is entry fee on 2 "bigger" things. it includes a hell of a lot of places. I don't think well have trouble getting value from it and it makes it a lot more prepaid, says u can skip queues etc, see if that's reality or not.

There's trains from 4am every 30 or so minutes... some are cheaper than others. Ranging from $15 each way into the $100s fro business class...

Thank you, I think we'll be near Grand Central Station (assuming that's where they depart) so an early start wouldn't be too difficult. >$30 to visit the capital and some sights is definitely growing on me. At this rate I'm going to need several more weeks to get through all of this :D.

Edit - cheek. Single showing as £15 one way to Washington, clicked on it and it says 'oops my bad, it now costs double the price'.

Exactly.

I just hope the weathers alright because to see all the things i want to means a long days walking between stuff.

When we went on a BA Flight and hotel package and stayed at the "Homewood Suites by Hilton New York/Midtown Manhattan Times Square-South".

Hotel Link

Had zero complaints - it served the purpose, was functional and had good links to Metro/Penn Station (and therefore madison square garden)/walkable to Empire State and Time Square/Broadway. Breakfast was ok. Would happily return if we were to go back and happy to recommend.

Knickerbocker is OK, big rooms and nice bar ontop.

New York is one of the few cities I would like to live in.

@doodah

i looked at your list of things you planned to do. What's this all about? :p

Marcy Avenue subway station
Ha, yeah it's a bit random/not refined yet. That was from a photography YouTube video suggesting routes/starting points. I've basically been trawling through photography and food videos for things to do.

Not much criteria but.

Travelling march 2024, it might be cold to normal people but not us reindeer herders.

Price conscious..... A good balance between rating, location, and cost.
3 står probably, breakfast Inc but not deal-breaker

When we travel we basically use the room and hotel as a base. Amenities on site unimportant. Pools gyms etc. Meh.
Location to a subway probably the key.

That means it doesn't have to be in Manhattan. But for a good price deffo take it.
Private bathroom must
Charmless Chain hotels are fine.

Price i guess is key

Less than 20k krona which about 1500 quid.

Doable for ten days? 8 days maybe ?

NYC?

We paid for a place that was/is literally a room with a wall view and a slow lift and no meals.. however it was clean, safe and in walking distance of everything :D Here's the place: 3 star: Moderne Hotel NYC

What was great is that the Pain Quotidian is across the road (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Le+Pain+Quotidien/data=!4m7!3m6!1s0x89c25857f8c6efb3:0xc6a38927744d8304!8m2!3d40.764917!4d-73.983441!16s/g/11bxc6c_7q!19sChIJs-_G-FdYwokRBINNdCeJo8Y?authuser=0&hl=en&rclk=1) so we ate there each morning - the big breakfast is enough to keep you going completely through lunch too.. and we ate out at random places for dinner as we found them.
Walking distance from Broadway and Timesquare etc. In fact we walked the length of Manhattan from the south through china town, and through little Italy, and if need be the tube is easy to get around too.

Nearby there's a Bagel place that at lunch time has a queue around the block.. we tried it once - seriously good.. about 15 types of bread and pretty much every topping you could think of. Having a look at the map it's still there "Pick-a-Bagel".

We've got a hotel now in jersey city right near exchange place path and 10 min from Hoboken.

We'll be riding a train to and fro but that's fine. It's super convenient for loads of other longer distance stuff we got planned like a trip to Washington DC.

It's same price as a time square shoe box but 3/4 stars :p

I stayed at the RIU hotel in Manhattan, right in the centre of Times Square, was there from 22nd Feb till the 28th Feb last month.

The hotel was very reasonably priced. Here are a couple of photos of our room. Defo not the biggest room, but very modern and clean and well presented.
