Can anyone recommend good places in the UK to go for a "weekend away", the only places I can think of is the peak and lake districts?
By the way i'm in london. Plus the northeast (newcastle and surrounding area) is out of the question as my partner, she is from there.
Thanks in advance guys :)

Maybe somewhere like suffolk? very very nice place if your into walking.

Maybe brighton? amazing place imo - nightlife is awsome!

Or maybe go over to wales and cliumb Ben nevis or similar as from the places you have suggested you may be into walking.

not fussed about walking, nice scenery would be nice though. Somewhere different from london. I've been to brighton many times.

Why not pop over to france??

Closer than some places

I thought of that, but then the hassle of getting a ferry to cover the english channel, I'd drive as it more flexible.

Just wanting suggestions so we can both agree on somewhere to go for the weekend

Go to the Isle of Skye. If you are reasonably on it then you can make it in 7 hours by car. Once you get off the motorway north of Glasgow then you will hit some of the best roads in the country, especially the A87.

Boston, Lincolnshire
Washington, Sunderland
Geneva, Ceredigion, UK
Hollywood, Birmingham, Worcestershire B47

You get the idea..

'Fancy going to Hollywood?' :p

It's no hassle at all, in fact it's probably easier than getting round the M25. However, what about Devon or Cornwall? Breacon beacons...or how about you say what you like doing, and then people will stop shouting random towns at you :D

Long walk to Ben Nevis from wales though

Matlock?

If you like bikes theres always a good collection there! Cars have started to appear there too. its a nice quite derbyshire town/village a fair few pubs (only went out there once at night/been loads during the day when its hot).

You got Gullivers kingdom for your kids - if you have any. Alton towers is not too far away.

Buxton is only one village away (I Think), so the peak district.

Derby and Derbshire Rocks!

Ambleside in the Lakes - beautiful place! Recommend the Lakes Lodge B&B bit more expensive than a normal B&B but the rooms are fantastic really nice B&B and a fantastic base for a weekend away.

Lots to do with the lakes and tourist info is packed full of walks, including short picturesque ones for people who aren't a fan of a full days walk!

Can you tell I like it ... :D

I'm not too fussed really about what to do, its more for my girlfriend. Was thinking of a weekend abroad was thinking of going away on the weekend of 22-24 june but flights are too expensive, can't really afford to pay £350++ just for flights and room for 2 nights. Checked on lastminute, expedia, opodo etc.
Just want loads of ideas so i can talk to her tonight after i finish work

to be honest, I always found it cheaper to go away. british holidays are stupidly expensive compared to going aboard once you factor food and activalites, unless you visit family and crash out at theres... go to the air port on the day and catch a last minute flight.

Yeah Ambleside is pretty nice wnet there on a stag do last summer, Not that great for a stag do as they're was a lack of fresh young lasses, so we had to put up with older mouldy women !

Come up to Scotland Loch Lomond is nice.

Very nice - I did the Caledonian canals in a 40foot boat for a week 2 years ago. Fort Augustus nearly killed me tho :( Dragging that damn boat through 5 lochs.

The lakes is going to be 8-9 hours from London, are you sure your up for that? For a weekend break I'd say it's way too long.

the Brecon Beacons is probably more inside your range.
