good places for a weekend in the UK

I just spent a week in sunny Shropshire, lovely part of England, in a nice Farm Country house just outside Shrewsbury, was very impressed with the whole area. Helped that weather was nice though

Devon? Cornwall?
Friend at work goes to St Ives very often and from the pictures he brings back its a nice place. Think its about a 5hr drive from London area.
