Come up to Scotland Loch Lomond is nice.
no offence to loch lommond cos it is amazing but if i went up that way i'd go that extra hour - hour n a half more n go round loch striven n holy loch, but thats just my personal preference

What about the new forest, it's a lovely place, great for walking if that's your thing, or plenty of places to just chillout and enjoy the views.

Spent a long weekend away with my girlfriend in Brockenhurst a couple of years ago, really enjoyed it!!!

I'm taking the Mrs to Longleat and we're gonna be staying in the Bath Arms which is on the Longleat estate. I think it's about £80 per night but you'd have to have a look at their website. Not sure what the web address is but if you do a search for Bath Arms I'm sure it'll pop up. We're also in London and it's nice to get away from here very now and then!

Hey there,

I go to Abersoch every year (since I as in nappys)... I have a static Caravan and the weather never really lets me down... I was there this weekend for the Jazzz Festival there... beaches are the best in the UK, and there is some nice totty there are well

Snowdonia. The Lakes and especially the Highlands are rather a long way to travel for just a weekend.

The lakes is going to be 8-9 hours from London, are you sure your up for that? For a weekend break I'd say it's way too long.

the Brecon Beacons is probably more inside your range.

The Lakes is no-where near that far away. It takes me 4.5hours to get to Lancaster from Essex, so to get to the Lakes from London is only going to be ~5 hours.

It is nice up there though especially driving over Wrynose and Hardknott Pass towards Ravenglass. Love that drive.

Wrynose was a surprise the first time :)

I'm judging that by how long it takes me to London (greenwich) from stoke (just off M6) and how long it takes me to get to the lakes.

Best times I'd expect to London is 4 hours, likewise best to the lakes (all the way in, ullswater - not kendal or similar) is 2 hours. 2+6 would be a best case 6 hours. If I'm not speeding or the M6 is busy it'll take me 3 hours to get to ullswater just from stoke..

If I'm not speeding, or there is traffic, that could easily turn into 8 hours, I know when I've arrived in London on a Friday night the traffic was a nightmare.

Have to agree... it takes me at least 4 hours to get to Warrington from Greenwich. The lakes are quite a bit further up the M6.

Go to the Isle of Skye. If you are reasonably on it then you can make it in 7 hours by car. Once you get off the motorway north of Glasgow then you will hit some of the best roads in the country, especially the A87.

7 hours from London to Skye? What sort of suicidal speeds is that at? Driving safely, it's probably about 6 hours from the north of England.

The Lakes - as in Cumrbia? 8-9 hours? Are you serious? It is only about 320 miles. Do you drive at 35mph on the motorway? 5.5 hours if you are on a major go-slow. 4.5 hours comfortably

thanks for all the suggestions guys, she likes the sound of Brecon Beacons. Just have to make sure i can finishing do all in the garden this weekend otherwise will have to put it off till july
