Good scam in the post!

I have. What is your reasonable excuse for opening a letter that is not addressed to you?

Postal Services Act 2000. It is only an offence if you open someone else’s mail ‘without reasonable excuse’ or if you ‘intend to act to another’s detriment’

It might be something important like a Covid vaccine letter or something time critical. I'd rather someone open my mail and do something about it than put it in the bin.

There was no return address

I've never understood why they don't spend £30 to get a native to proof read it first, they would easily get that money back.

It's done deliberately the same as email spam. It weeds out anyone slightly intelligent that is going to be alerted, thus leaving the really dumb/gullible to continue forwards down the path of being scammed.

I've never seen one in the post before. It was quite exciting!

It's been a slow day
Yeah. All I know are the ones who call at midnight using spoofed numbers. LOL. I still read so many reports and complaints filed at sites like http://phonebook.ai about those phone scammers. I think people should have been aware about how these scammers work.

As others have said the mistakes and obvious signs of a scam make this an excellent example of good sales conversion.

If it were believable they may get 100 people replay. They then have to put effort in to get money out of these people. If 90 people wise up during the process and they only get money from 10 people they have a conversion rate of about 10%.

If it is obviously bad they may only get 11 people reply but now if they get money from 10 of the, as much less likely to spot a scam during the process if they responded in the first place this is a 90% conversion rate.

The later requires a lot less resource and money than making the, believable. I suspect most sales companies would love the conversion rates of spammers.

it's because they want to discourage anyone savvy enough to spot the mistakes, they only want gullible folks applying to their scams in the first place.

Sorry for the bump, I did a search for scams rather than start a new thread.
There was a text message on my phone when I got up this a.m., this isn’t verbatim, as I’ve deleted it, but it was very close to this;
“You are eligible for a Covid Pass, follow the attached link, do not ignore this as you may incur a fine.”
Now I’m old enough to be Methuselah’s big brother, but I just thought, ‘Yeah right’, and deleted it, but I thought, ‘How many old timers, and even young timers were scared ****less at the words “incur a fine”, and clicked on the link immediately?
