good space ship game?

ahh, just realised, in spaceforce rogue universe the largest ship you can have is just a small fighter craft.
i want something massive to control with multi laster turrets etc. which game can offer me this?
would X3 do the trick?

Have you tried Oolite yet?

Based on the classic Elite, it's completely free with a large community of users. New missions/ships etc are available all the time.
