Good wireless mouse?

Hi,

My mum bought a new wireless mouse for her PC today. Being avid gamers none of the family has owned a wireless mouse before. We got the Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000. We're used to mice like the Intellimouse Optical which is a really straight forward mouse, nicely designed and works flawlessly.

I'm shocked at how bad the wireless mouse is, and it's going back for sure. Firstly it's heavy, second it doesn't slide well, thirdly watching the pointer on the screen it seems surprisingly jerky and I can detect a touch of lag, fourthly the geometry seems off - you move the mouse horizontal and it moves along but also slightly up on the screen, and the movement can sometimes seem non linear, like it accelerates (something the Intellimouse Optical does not do). The accuracy doesn't even seem any good even though it's supposedly a higher DPI than the Intellimouse Optical.

So, inevitable questions - are all wireless mice this bad, and are they all this heavy? Is it worth trying another one, maybe a Logitech? Would a bluetooth one be better maybe - this one we've bought has a silly receive station you have to put on your desk, rather than just the usb dongle you get with the bluetooth ones.

Maybe lazer mice don't work well on wooden desks - we're using it without a mouse mat, but the other mice we've used slide about just fine on that desk, and the optical mice we've used seem very accurate on it.

Please tell me there's some better wireless mice out there

Cheers,
Simon.

there are good wireless mouses out there but maybe not as good as wired mouses (some or most will argue), the G7 is a good example of a good wireless mouse, however it does have its flaws, the main one being its nearly imposssible to find (maybe out of production?) and the battries do not last long enough although you do get 2 rechargables that only takes seconds so swap.

MX Revolution is the best I have owned (previously had Microsoft Blue, MX1000, and some other Logitech Wireless mouse). No detectable lag for me so far :)

G7's been EOL'd by logitech for a few months now :(

to be honest, the majority of wireless mice are not made for the purposes of gaming. the sheeple that use computers don't really know what a good mouse is like to use, so they'll never know any better, because MS keep making shoddy wireless mice.

unless it was a new wireless gaming-mouse from Logitech, i'd stick to wired.

Logitech MX1000 has done me justice so far...Batteries lasta good while, but they can drain if you play a game or two for hours on end for a couple of days.

Again it has a bit of weight behind it so you may or may not like that...

I think Laser mice might not like the desk as they're more accurate...theoretically, so they will pic up every nook and cranny as they go along.

I used to own a wired MS intellimouse explorer before this.

Oh and the mx1000 has a docking station sadly...like most wireless mice.

Cheers for the help guys :)

Might try one more from the purple shirt place (who don't have much of a selection sadly) and if that's no good we'll have to order a proper gaming mouse from OcUK. Might try that Logitech LX7 cordless.

My last 2 have been MX1000 and I now have the Revolution, it's very good, great battery life, lots of button options to choose from with the logitech software installed!

Just a thought, did you install the software for that specific mouse? Not sure if it will solve ALL your issues, but it will allow you to configure pointer movement a lot more than the standard windows driver will (acceleration in particular springs to mind here).

Yeah we installed the software and tweaked every option we could find. We took the Microsoft one back and swapped it for a Logitech LX7 cordless, which is a lot better, but still a bit heavy and sluggish. The pointer moves ok, but the actual mouse in your hand has more momentum when you're moving it due to the extra weight (the batteries), so that makes it feel sluggish. It's not awful by any means, but it doesn't rival a standard wired mouse IMO. It's mainly for my mum to play Mahjongg and my dad to play Wow btw. I, of course, have the sense to use a wired mouse :D

They've got the MX revolution in the purple shirt place, but it's £80.
