Goodbye PS2!!!!

wtf is with this kinda of thread lately today? Anyhow, there would be continued development and support for ps2 - 100million users or so is a figure no one can ignore.

Not for me!

I'll be getting a 360 soon and will still playing my much loved PS2 games (Timesplitters, Tekken, MGS, Devil May Cry, God of War etc), so I'll be keeping mine and buying more games :)

You're also missing the whole PSP point, developers are releasing more and more games on both systems simultaneously nowadays as they're very similar hardware wise.

Personally i doubt it, the PS1 kept going for a few years and with one of the PS2's biggest titles ever coming out AFTER the release of the PS3, then i doubt it.
I am actually a little dissapointed MS treated the xbox in such a manner tbh

Doubt it really.

Especially with the current global user base Sony has with the PS2. Expect games to be made for at least another year or two.

God of War 2 is proof there's life in the old dog yet.

The PSone was still being sold for four years after the PS2 was released (I know, I didn't think it was that long either) so you can expect Sony to support the PStwo for about another three years yet imo.
Also beleive it or not but PSone games were still being developed and sold up until a couple of years after the last of the retail consoles was sold.

Good old Wikipedia ;)

With sony stuffing up the backwards compatibility (IMO worse than MS did) for europe (and apparently continuing the trend to the US and Japan).

Not to want to get into another war, but how is it worse than MS did??

Nobody knows what is gonna be compatible yet. And Sony always said the PS2 hardware was only a temp measure.

I am waiting to get one sub £50 with PE6 on the PS2, it's still a better version than the 360 and there's still FF11 and FF12 I still not played.

Ms gave us a list before the launch, and at least claimed to invest time and money into the b/w catalog. IIRC Sony have just said they are making no promises ;)

Yeah they claimed to invest time and money, but we all know it didn't really happen.

It will be interesting to see what games are compatible.

I have read rumours last week that the list of inital titles available through software emulation will be 1000 which sounds good. The biggest skank MS did (whcih I hope Sony do not do) was to say something along the lines of "every new xbox game will be playable on 360". I can't find a quote but I am sure this was said before the release.

At present xbox 1 games come out weekly and I am guessing they do not work on the 360.

I'm willing to bet money that the best PS2 games will be working on day 1. (GT games, Tekken, Devil May Cry God of War). Something that MS did not manage (to my recollection).

Only 10 days left to find out definitively. I agree them not saying the list status now is suspicious (considering past false promises), but I am hoping to give them the benefit of the doubt, just ;-)

None of the new generation of consoles has yet to surpass their predecessors (although the 360 is close), so I don't see how the PS2 can possibly be dead.

This is mainly to do with the way they cache files on the HDD (Every xbox had one whereas core 360's don't), try telling developers to not take advantage of the big performance they get from caching though!

Doesn't matter, as iirc you need an HDD to run backwards compatible games. They can cache to their hearts content.

Are you thinking of the 'The xbox 360 will be able to run the top selling xbox games' quote?

Or was it the one that they where looking to include the emulators into futer xbox games?

Yeah that quote was ambiguous at best tbh, it was something along the lines of

"We will have Backwards computability with Most of out Top Selling games"

IMO if you are a serious gamer, you will probably keep your old console anyway. The PS2 was brilliant in the fact that not only was it fully BW compatible, it made some games look better. We probably wont see that kind of quality again imo :(

I think only Halo2 makes such claims. TBH I have not noticed, but then again I'm sure if I fired it up on the old xbox I'd think it looked like arse.
