Googelmail - Emails you Have to open ???

What's the deal with some of these emails I am getting in my Gmail account ? Usually I can just touch the tab on the side & delete any emails I don't want to open/read, Recently I've been getting a few where you cannot just delete them you have to open them to delete them ?

What gives folks of GD ? :confused:
 
On my mobile an S3, Only started a week or two ago & it's just the odd email but it ***** me off I can't just delete it without opening it like all the rest.
Must be some new way Google are advertising & forcing users to open the emails they want.
 
I'll assume this is in the android gmail app, as I have a similar issue, kind of

I do the same as you, tap the initials of the sender on the left hand side to 'check' the emails and delete multiple at the same time. When doing this, some of them don't check, they open instead

As said, I assumed this was just me clicking the email instead of the box accidentally, may be the same issue though

or maybe you've marked an email address as something you have to open as I've never seen anything like that on gmail :p

Sort of the same but Yes I tick the coloured boxes on the left & tehn the delete button & Yes sometimes it does open an email instead of just checking the coloured box.
The difference with these emails is you cannot tick the box, All you can do is open the email & delete from there :confused:


@DerekW - How would I check this as I haven't ticked any email addys or done anything differently.
 
it was half meant as a flippant reply but I know on the main desktop site you mark certain emails as 'important' or 'starred' I don't use the gmail app on my phone so i don't know if there's anything that you may or may not have clicked on to cause this.
 
I'm aware of those options & it's neither of those. I'm thinking it's a new way Google are sending out Advert/Spam emails that don't have the option to delete without opening them.
Need somebody else to understand & have the same problem really or it's just me being Mentals. :p
 
Not had any of those.

Did notice for the first time yesterday a "sponsored" email, but I could just delete it like normal.
 
IMAP issue, bt since it transferred to its new system from Yahoo has the same issue,

in order to deleted or view properly you need to view from PC, then the IMAP is updated as to use of mail,

if you don't it wont delete etc,

its to make sure you don't miss an email on the road/out and about

the apps for android/apple haven't been updated to support this,

maybe soon because its a PITA
 
Sounds close Soundood but I can Open, View & Delete the emails I just want to be able to delete them without opening them.
One thing I do have my Yahoomail & Hotmail forwarded to my Gmail account so I wonder if the emails are coming from one of the accounts that are forwarded therefore glitching the IMAP issue you mention.

No problem here. Can swipe to delete as well. Domain emails go into the Gmail account too which pushes to the Android app. All fine
 
I haven't had any issues on the K-9 email client (free) on my Android phone, maybe you could give that a try? I use K-9 because it neatly organises my 2 email inboxes.

I know this doesn't solve your issue if you're wanting to use the Google's official app, but certainly worth a shout.
 
It's not about just deleting it's being able to tick the coloured box & delete rather than having to Open it to delete it.

I can delete these emails if I open them on my moby no problem at all. The issue is not being able to just Tick the coloured box on the left & deleting it WITHOUT opening it like all the other emails I get.


Not shouting at you Sliver I am just trying to clarify for others. :)
 
Yes I understand your problem, after all I DID read the thread. All I'm saying is that I CAN delete my emails without opening them from my phone and PC.

So maybe your problem is app related ?
 
Can we just stick to the issue at hand & these Rogue emails.

To Clarify again -

I can delete emails from my moby by ticking the coloured box & hitting delete.

The Rogue emails cannot be deleted this way but have to be opened to delete them.

I thought it was a simple explanation to get a simple answer but then what was I thinking thinking it was going to be just a plain & simple thread with Solutions or Help.
