So it would seem that my school deems Google Inappropriate

This morning this said 'This website has been categorised as "Adult Material".'
Are they being serious, has someone at c2k (the school system admins) made a mistake or is it a major troll

Has it flagged Https:// also, that sometimes gets round it. Otherwise, tuck your legs into your chest, put your thumb into your mouth and rock back and forward while crying your eyes out.

https:// works sometimes, you can get into a few websites that support https, but not on google unfortunately

if you were in a primary school i could understand that, but in the Irish equivalent of 6th form that is ridiculous.

The favoured way to get around my old schools ridiculous proxys was to use a program called ultrasurf. I cant remember how it worked, but basically as soon as it ran the proxy's were about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

unfortunately i can't run programs anymore, used to create an html page with a download link on it, open it in ie7...yes my school uses ie7.... and then it it would download the .exe in to a temporary folder and allow me to run the program. was able to install firefox and such however they patched that this year so i can no longer do it

Blocking Google is insane, what are the IT folks thinking. I guess Wikipedia is probably off the menu too just in case you might learn something.

Looks like you will have to use logmein or something like that via web interface and use your PC at home to get anywork done!

I can understand why youtube might be blocked in case your all watching family guy or something else! :)

wikipedia works fine, in fact you can get on to a lot of websites i would class worse than youtube........*cough* general discussion forum on overclockers*cough*, seems someone in the IT department has had a bit of a derp moment

I highly doubt that al the proxies have been blocked. At school, before we found out about stuff like ultrasurf, we went through hundreds of proxies. usually they were blocked within a couple of days, but as soon as one was blocked we found another.

I suggest you look in the depths of whatever search engine isnt blocked on your computer for phproxy. I'm talking something like 50 pages in (and not the pages right at the end of the list of links to pages of the search either)

Also, try using a webpage translator. They also work like proxies. on a similar line, those websites that 'translate' a website into something silly like pirate speak or whatever might work too

lol might give that a go tomorrow

No, he was right the first time.

In order to stop you using your own proxy that you can change the IP address of at will they'd have to set up a whitelist of approved sites the students can access and block everything else.

but this is nearly impossible, how many websites are there, to whitelist the entire internet. the only way i could see them dealing with me connecting to an ip address, is if they disallow direct connections to ip address or using a different ip address as a proxy

Can you use Yahoo?

yeah, its fine, however i can still access google by the ip address, i think they have just slipped up however i have a feeling this is going to be permanent, when trying to search using the chrome url bar it loads google as "adult material" they can't ban google surely? its google!!!!!!
