Google Chrome

Interesting. Firefox has been a problem for me a bit recently with "not responding" errors; seems to have happened after installing AVG. Either way, this new browser might be worth a look :)

Certainly looks good, with some interesting ideas. Will have to try the beta when it gets released tomorrow to see if its as good as it looks :)

I get intermittant crashes with Opera as well, doesn't help I have 27 or more tabs open at once. I'll look forward to this. Does anybody else have any other information?

Everyone will jump on it instantly because is holier than thou Google. I'll reserve my right to be silent :p

It'll no doubt be a beta product for about 3 years anyway, will hardly any support if it doesn't work because "it's in beta" ;).

If its any good i'll give it a go, but i cannot seeing it dethroning Opera or FireFox right now, if anything it'll be good at integrating there own services i reckon...

If its not some kind of early April fools joke....

It doesn't seem to bring much, if anything, new to the table.

  • the same malware and phishing protection Firefox has
  • a URL bar which resembles a cross between the Awesome Bar and IE8's URL bar
  • IE7 and 8 have the thread separation/minimum privilege idea going on already
  • the new tab page looks similar to Opera's Speed Dial
  • the private browsing mode's been being batted around at Mozilla for ages and is implemented in IE8b2
  • the rendering engine is the same one that powers Safari.

If it's binning the thread when you move from one domain to another in the same tab, the back button is going to be really slow too.

The process manager that shows memory usage for each tab is interesting, and I'm curious how fast V8 is at running JS given the work on TraceMonkey in Firefox 3.1 and SquirrelFish in Webkit.

espically on older less specced machines.

Where it'll probably run even slower than existing browsers because of the overhead of all those threads, not least the extra memory all that separation will gobble up.

Anyone able to get the download to work? I'm guessing that they've put the pages up, but not the files yet.

Looks like all the other browsers are refusing to let you have it ;-)

Just what we need, another browser to make it even longer to get a web page looking the same in each!

http://gears.google.com/chrome/update2/installers/ChromeSetup.exe = 404

Edit above URL goes straight to Google HP now, they must be in the process of doing something.

Also get no file using http://dl.google.com

Google Chrome will be beta forever - so you just tell clients that it's beta and thus its a bug with the browser rather than your code...that work....right??? :D

Yep... Just goes to my iGoogle Home Page!... I just wanna give it a try!... Thats how I chose between Opera and Firefox!... I had a play for a couple of months and seteled on the one I liked!...

I even gave Safari a go... went back to Firefox almost immediatly!... (Apple software on a PC don't go!!... iTunes... nuff said)

Chrome looks promising.. but I'll probly end up back with Firefox in a month!!..

Anyone found this yet? I'm looking to try it out too. Not wanting to jump on the google-wagon or anything but I think it looks promising and just wanted to give it a go.

It'll get a full public beta release later today - probably sometime after the folks in Cupertino get into the office, so around teatime UK.
