Google Chrome

Anyone download it earlier when it appears it was up?

EDIT- As far as I can see it never went up. Just people found out the link where it would be up. I wanna play with it NOW.

The download pages themselves went up - with some relatively nice screenshots of it, but it did nothing when you clicked on download.

Remember that West Coast USA is 8hrs behind us. I doubt it'll be released before they get into work :p So that makes it a 5pm UK launch at least :)

Interesting indeed but surely there may be a bunch of security exploits early on? I may wait a while and see what other opinions are like in terms of useability before i bother.

Awesome, JIT compiled JavaScript, and that task manager dealy looks pretty awesome (I hate having to close my whole browser just because one page is acting up). Hopefully it isn't ruined by poor choices such as ignoring standards.

Anyone know if there's any particular reason (licensing, technical etc) that they're using WebKit over Gecko? I can only speak from my experience, but the latter always seems to outperform the former in terms of speed.

As soon as someone gets a copy can they mirror it onto another site? I think it's inevitable that the download server will die/crawl to a standstill.

Android (Google's mobile OS) uses Webkit for its browser, so it's probably based on that.
On the other hand, they've given gajillions of dollars to Mozilla...

I might be able to mirror it for a bit.

Looks an interesting developement.

*Hopes its not as dissapointing as previous google releases which had such good pretences.*

They said in the comic that webkit was what the Android team were using, and they picked it because it's simpler and easier to slim down to low-power devices. I guess with multiple processes you want minimal bloat.

Fantastic! I've long thought that Google didn't already have enough of my personal info.
