Google Chrome

The only reason I said that I would have expected Firefox to of taken some code form chrome was for 2 reasons:

1. In that cartoon thing about chrome it says its all open source so other browsers can choose to use features they liked

2. Google are still giving money to mozilla, so I'm not sure what they intend of gaining from each other at the moment :-S

It'll be interesting to see what happens

Google gives money to mozilla because mozilla use google as their default search engine. If mozilla used an open source search engine, the money would be gone. If mozilla popularity drops too low, the money would be gone.

Call me cynical but I don't believe a *business* would stump up for something that they stand to gain nothing from.

Search revenue, the same as before? Google isn't handing over the cash for the love of it...

If Yahoo or someone offered the same sort of money, it would probably become the default search engine too.

Wow ! Trying it now and it's very very fast, not like with firefox which isn't really noticable, but a lot faster...

But It lacks a few essential features. Most importantly it came with just the Dutch spell check so no doubt I'm typing errors again, ie7pro has both dutch and eng...

Secondly, I can't bloody scroll with my middle mouse button, eg. press MMB then move mouse down for scrolling.

Finally no RMB controls like in ie7pro...

Hope it can all be fixed/added :(.

Just started using it now, and I must say i'm very impressed with it so far(well as far as being impressed with browsers goes)

Think I'll start using this rather than Firefox for the time being, also like the slick and basic look of it :)

EDIT: Actually I've noticed something i'm missing, in Firefox I have a drop down menu in my tabs bit that shows the main headlines, think its live bookmarks or something you call it. Is there a way you can get it on chrome?

Also noticed that my msn messenger sets itself as busy as it thinks i'm running a full screen program(i know technically I am but this never happened with firefox)

Anyone seen this happen? Basically while using Chrome every so often my disk activity goes nuts and using process monitor it seems to be writing to a couple of files called safebrowsing and safebrowsingjournal. I can hazard a guess at what these are for, but why on Earth is is making my HDD go mad for five minutes every half an hour or so?

Yes I noticed it and mentioned it earlier in the thread :)

Check this out for a solution (I can't promise it works but it apparently does).

I'll swear I get hangs and lags with it...

Thanks guys, I'll give that a try. See at home I have first generation Raptor, which is by far the nosiest thing in the room when it's going, plus it seems to slow everything else down when it's doing that so it'd be good to kill.

Has anyone got a good privoxy config I can steal? I'm using it to block ads, but it doesn't catch quite as many ads as adblock does. Also, the current version runs Facebook properly now. Works better than Firefox now!

ive used chrome almost exclusively for a while now. I love it and find it cumbersome to go back to ie or firefox. There are still a few sites around ofc that chrome wont let me use but on the whole its imba.

Hm... I'm currently on the kids' old laptop because I'm waiting for my new (week 22) E8600 to arrive to replace the week 20 I sold. Anyway, it's an old Fujitsu Amilo Pro and only has a 1.6Ghz Celeron M and 256MB SDRAM :o

Chrome ran lighter and faster than IE or Firefox (my usual browser) so I've been using it. Getting sick of the hangs and problems with flash etc, I decided to try Opera again for a while. NONE of the Opera mirrors will load in Chrome. Not from the default download page, nor clicking the mirrors directly. "This page can not be found".

Paste the same link into IE and the download starts instantly. Google Chrome feels the need to stifle the competition. Discuss :p

Love it so far, but it needs a confirmation or something when closing the browser while downloading, because the download hides away and sometimes i forget and close the browser and lose the download.

I maybe late with this as you may have already worked it out. But I thought the same as you however when you load the browser back up and click the spanner in the right hand corner then downloads, its still downloading
