Google employees charged over videos posted online - wtf

So in your world pretty much every web forum, wikipedia etc. would have to either moderate every single post/edit or close down. lol.
Can you explain why you believe that an online publisher should be held to standards different from (i.e. more lax than) a physical publisher or film producer?

I'm not talking about whether it is always possible to apply the same standards, just whether different standards SHOULD for some reason apply.

There is a difference between a publisher and a dynamic user content created website, your example is flawed. It's like sueing ITV because they showed a live football game like Hillsborough. 'Live' media is completely different to 'published' media.

Should I be able to sue my company because someone said something deffamatory on our conference call system?

I accept that it is difficult (may even be impossible) but that is the nature of the medium with which Google have chosen to become involved.

Would you consider it acceptable if Google were to offer people a platform to put forward whatever offensive or inflammatory views they fancied and Google could then just give a Gallic shrug and say "Nothing to do with us Guv."

I suppose you want Google to vet all the sites they link to from their search engine? Maybe you even want to Post Office/Royal Mail to vet all post sent?

Google (via YouTube and Google Video) do a tremendous job of removing bad content. What more can they do as it is impossible to vet them as they are uploaded. Furthermore if something real offensive is uploaded you don't punish Google you punish the uploader. That's common sense.

The Italians have been after Google ever since videos of their Prime Minister up to no good leaked onto the Internet.
