Not actual teleporting of course, it's just the new name for their new feature.

Pretty groovy news really.

Google have now launched a search within a site function for major websites within their own Google results.

Of course this features has always been there, but now there is physically a second search box rather than having to do

vista site:microsoft.com

It's all algorithmically based, from what I understand if a website is getting a load of people typing the URL into Google, then doing a secondary search after that - Google have started implementing this feature for them.

News from Google themselves.

Saw this earlier when I searched for 'University of Kent', from within the results it offered me to search the Kent uni site which I thought was pretty awesome

Very nice.

I presume that the target sites (Wikipedia, MS etc) have to enable this somehow or does it happen automatically? If it happens automatically then Google could find themselves in hot water with the authorities for anti-competitive behaviour.

Great for end users, but sounds like it could be a lot more SEO work for webmasters. :(

Not really mate, the new search function they've done does the generic site search on Google.

From what the Blog says its mainly for hugely popular sites and people that type the full URL into google and then do a search on the site.

Don't see how this is going to make it any harder for us SEO's at all :)

So I have to type the site I want to search then the searchstring. Ok for the plebs I guess.

very handy if you need to search microsoft.com - their own search sucks. given they supposedly want to compete with google, i can't believe how bad their own site search is.....

Nothing's changed at all? You can still do site: blah.com as said by the OP.

Yeh sorry I wasn't very clear in the post. I meant why bother to do that when I can just type site:blah etc. Just seems a waste of keystrokes to me. I suppose it's useful for people who don't know about Googles advanced features.

Indeed it is, it's all about enhancing the end users experience my friend - and for Mom & Pops I imagine this would be a very good feature to use.
