Google Mail storage capacity

It's a publicity stunt...

Nevertheless, I don't think anyon's ever gotten near the 7GB or so limit.

It's genuine I believe, Google use an aggregated file system for storage (like HDFS on Hadoop) so they must simply divide the the amount of storage flagged as "available" by the number of registered Google Mail users (though that trend is unlikely to be always positive so I assume they do some sort of interpolation). But the truth is they have masses (and I mean Petabytes) of disk space to through at Gmail.

i still delete mail when i'm done with it. can't see the point in keeping it even if space isn't an issue.
Same here. Partly to keep things organised but also because I don't like the idea of having so much personal information sitting in one potentially insecure location.

Same, although recently I have been utilising the space by using "Gmail Space" firefox extension, it allows you to use your gmail inbox as web storage, for backing up files etc.

Why not try skydrive? link

If you've got a windows live/hotmail addy you have 25 gb free file storage space :)

I use it for backing up some stuff for formats and when needing to send a file to someone.

On January 18th 2038, Google estimate they will provide just over 43GB per email account. Who is going to test that then? :D

Code:
// Estimates of nanite storage generation over time.
var CP = [
 [ 1199433600000, 6283 ],
 [ 1224486000000, 7254 ],
 [ 2144908800000, 10996 ],
 [ 2147328000000, 43008 ],
 [ 46893711600000, Number.MAX_VALUE ]
];

Also looking at the code, they do a roundtrip 'ping' (it isn't really a ping) test back to their server and log it against your account. Why haven't the Google privacy police lambasted them for this yet? :)

I delete nothing but spam.

I'm using 54% at the moment, but it increases every week. At this rate, i'll be hitting 100% in a few years!
