Google Pixel 5

I'd really like a good battery on my next phone and would be annoyed if it couldn't get through the day with no issues.

The battery is solid on the 5, the 4a has a smaller battery and that is regarded as having decent battery life.

While nowhere near as long-lasting as some of the crazier 5000mAh+ budget phones popular in markets like India, the Pixel 4a is genuinely impressive for its longevity given what it's working with.

Pixel 4a has 3140mAh, Pixel 5 has 4000mAh.

I've put in a pre-order for the Sage for my wife and I. I already have Bose QC35 II so I'll be selling them.

I ordered this morning, when I ordered delivery was 27th, email says 28th. I'm just wondering if there will be any headphones left by then as in the small print says stock limited. Its also highly confusing re the dates, the terms read :

  1. To take part in the Promotion, Participants must submit a claim for the Reward from 14 to 45 days after receipt of the Qualifying Product ("Claim Period") ........
  2. For the avoidance of doubt, the date of receipt shall be considered day 1 for the purposes of the Promotion. As such the last day to submit a Claim for a Qualifying Product ordered on 30 September is 3 January 2021 (23:59 GMT).
Isn't 45 days after 30th September mid November ? even if it was after receipt of phone rather than order it would be end November, the "avoidance" of doubt has increased my doubt what the hell they are going on about, or are they suggesting you might not get a phone ordered on the 30th Sept until mid Nov?

I am planning on giving my 4xl to my Mrs to replace her 2xl which has a large crack on the screen.

I have pre ordered but still want to see some hands on reviews

Do we know if Google TV has all the UK catch up/streaming services?

UK wise, BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, My5 and TV Player are on there as it stands. The interesting thing is that on Sony TV's that run Android TV, All 4 and Now TV are there so clearly an exclusive deal has been made for them to be on there and not on the regular Play Store. Any attempts to extract the APK's and sideload them on have failed so far.

I'm on a Pixel 2 (not the Xl) as well and the battery is dire these days. Everything else is fantastic still imo (maybe a little sluggish by modern standards) so it's a shame I need to change!

I'm hoping the 4000mAh battery will be a significant upgrade - with a slightly less meaty processor I'm guessing it's going to last pretty well.

Yeah same date here. The ethernet adapter is available for pre-order as well.

Showed the wife the promo video for it and she was impressed with everything merged on the front screen as opposed to having to go into an app to see the same merged content (ATV+). Just a shame All 4 and Now TV aren't playing ball with TV apps.

Scored an 8.5 on The Verge so everyone seems to be impressed with it.

USB-C hubs and webcams have been tested and work great on it.

I wouldn't expect anything from sky. The now tv app is awful on the apple tv, so I guess it will be the same on google tv.

Oh, google have already taken the money from my bank account.

My iphone 11 has face unlock, and I still much prefer my Pixel 2xl's finger print scanner. But each to their own - I don't particularly care for face unlock, nor do I care for gaming graphics capability.

I need a phone that allows me to use the apps that I use, and takes excellent photos. That to me says pixel... I do accept other phones may be "better" but it depends on your use and perspective. I don't want anything other than stock android. Even using my iphone is frustrating despite it being a relatively modern one, and whilst I do like the Samsungs I just don't find the features all the compelling and complicates things unnecessarily. £600 frankly such little money that if it turns out to be rubbish or not as good as you hope you can just get another phone.

Perfectly reasonable aside from the "£600 frankly such little money" comment, I don't know anyone, and I know quite a few genuinely wealthy people, (millionaires) that would openly make such a comment, they all value money more than that, but then I have found there is marked difference in attitude towards money between upper middle class and truly wealthy people.

Hadn't realised the Pixel 2 was only 2700, if it's not an upgrade then something has gone seriously wrong!

Debating whether to order a dbrand grip case as don't like a lot of these overly designed cases. Plus it has the lowered edges to make it easier to swipe from the sides.

I still cannot get over the loss of the squeeze for assistant being cut.

I find it impossible to swipe up from the edges for assistant on my 3XL.

Really is a bummer. It's also nice that I still have unlimited original quality Google storage for my photos and videos.

I know everyone says you can't tell the difference between Original/HighQuality for photos and I'm sure that's true. But for 4K video you certainly can.

I was also hyped for 5G for Stadia on mobile. But it works perfectly fine for me on 3G surprisingly.

Has this been confirmed? I don't understand this as I still have the original Chromecast and that supports pretty much all UK TV streaming apps, will I still be able to 'cast' apps like All 4 from my phone to the new Chrome cast TV?

Pre-ordered for the first time since the original Pixel launch in 2016.

Fingers crossed they can get it right this time as I've been in the wilderness for a few years, and I miss Pixel.

Was tempted by this but no telephoto is a deal breaker. What are the alternatives for similar price/specs but with wide angle and telephoto camera? I don't need top hardware specs

Samsung S20 FE seems to be the main rival.

I know what you mean. If this had the telephoto I would have definitely pre-ordered last night, but as usual, we have to make a compromise on a device who's MO is photography.

I am still interested, but £600 is still a lot of money if it doesn't have a feature you've been wanting for the last 3 years, headphones or no headphones.

Perhaps my comment wasn't clearly stated - I posted possibly too quickly. To clarify, I think £600 for a phone is not a lot of money. Considering what they are these days, and the fact you use them for hours every day, for years.

In the days of the 3310, I remember buying that for £130+ or so - well it was over £100. And you compare what phones can do these days. Ok £600 is something I wouldn't want to lose or waste, but for what you get, I don't see it as a lot of money. It's an investment as anything you spend money on, but the value you get from it makes it "cheap" or worthwhile.

My iphone 11 was a lot more expensive and I just don't enjoy using it as much so felt like a bit of a waste - I now use it for work rather than my day-to-day phone. It's a good phone, good camera etc, but I'm not getting value for money from it. I'm still using my pixel 2xl - so it's quite a waste!

I guess it's what you perceive as value for money and how much you get. It was not some sort of strange flex of "look at me £600 is nothing" - it genuinely is for me not a lot of money for something that I use every day for years. My season ticket for work used to cost 10x the cost of this phone and I loathed paying for that! :D
