Google Pixel 5

I recently moved over too, be interested to know your thoughts. I decided to replace Chrome on my Pixel 5 with Edge and same on my desktop, fed up of the lack of ad blocking on Android chrome. Also using my Microsoft account via the MS Authenticator app to sync passwords, it allowed me to import all my Chrome passwords which made the switch a breeze.

I ended up cancelling my order. I’m going to give it a while before I change. I’m quite heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem, mainly apps I use. I guess I’m too used to polished apps on iOS then their android counterparts. The syncing between my devices is a little to hard to leave. I understand google offers similar services but I guess ease of use is a big thing for me.

I’ve done a lot of reading regarding the pixel 5. Some things have filled me with confidence and others not so much (mainly hw qc), and having had the pixel 2/3/4 in the past there was always something that made me end up getting rid and going back over to iPhones. Once the stores open, I will definitely go have a play with one in store rather then go through the process of buying one, then returning it.

Another thing in the back of my mind was that if the hardware/power of the phone would last 3-4 years with the software updates with no slowing down of the phone.

The April upgrade has been a good one so far. Phone is feeling snappier. Also enjoying using the wide angle camera more than I thought I would. It's so so for video but for pictures been a better addition than I thought it would.

Im struggling to find a way to set a static IP for an Ethernet connection, is this not possible on stock Android 11?

If no, does lineageOS support this and do the bank apps work on lineageOS as it uses the stock kernel?

Seriously considering going back to Chinese phone manufacturers or switching to iOS... Getting more and more annoyed with Google's Android getting more and more restrictive/simplified.

Ethernet on a phone? Tethered? Confused....

I can set static ip by just editing the connection(wifi at least).

Can you set the Ip from windows?

Older Android phones had Ethernet under more connections, this seems to be missing in the newer stock Android ROMs. I don't know why they would remove this, really annoying... Something so simple.

I'm using USB-C Ethernet Adapter from UNi, internet works however I need this for something else and I won't be able to connect unless I set a static IP for the Ethernet connection.

Cant set that on the windows side? I can change the ip on the ethernet adapter when its tethered from the windows adapter screen. (Apologies if I am not understanding how you are connected to the phone. :p)

Looks like this is not possible... time to sell the Pixel, this is not the first frustration I get with this phone. I thought the whole idea of Android was to give you more freedom over iOS, but even iOS allows you to set a static IP on an Ethernet connection! WTF?! Not having a go at anyone, just genuinely annoyed...

Edit

Phoned Google to be told its not possible and raise feedback via phone... Great service... Yet my work mobile, which is an old Samsung has this option. Time to look at custom ROM's, the issue is, I want to keep the bank apps and I know this won't be easy. Ehh... or do I just get an iPhone? :p
