Unfortunately, the lack of 3.5mm Jack is a deal breaker for me.
i can't remember the last time i used headphones with my phone, but as i do work in a dusty, dirty and often wet environment anything that makes a phone more robust is a win for me

Yes, you are certainly right about the dual front speakers based on the FCC filing for the HTC sourced Pixel 2.

The screenshots show the new Android O settings app running Android 8.0.1 with an August security patch. A second screenshot shows the HTC-U11 like squeeze functionality called "Active Edge". Google Assistant is launched with a squeeze.
The device processor (Qualcomm WiFi chip) is confirmed as the Snapdragon 835. The thick bottom bezel is where you will find the speaker for dual front-facing audio.
Awaiting the FCC filing for the LG sourced Pixel 2 XL.

Removing the headphone jack makes this a very tough sell for me.

not sure on that, but hardly a deal breaker seeing as they phones charge in an hour. gone are the need of leaving your phone on charge all night, i do mine when i wake up and get showered.

In any case, I can't see the point. It seems they're removing it for the sake of it.
I thought it was clear that they are removing it (the head phone jack) to make room for the dual front speakers.

It will just be a half inch usb c one end and 3.5mm jack the other.

If there's an adaptor that allows the use of the 3.5mm Jack then it could be an acceptable compromise, and for a lot of people it's going to be essential to have that transition. If the industry wants to move away from wired headphones then it will inevitably happen, but people won't want to throw out hundreds of pounds worth of quality components straight away. It'll take a while for decent alternative wireless phones to be available, and by that time the wired will be due an upgrade anyway.

Exactly this... no way I'm chucking some damn fine headphones and earbuds away as yet.
I'm still stupid enough to get a Pixel 2 just 9 months after the Pixel 1 though!

I would rather 10 adapters daisy chained together than put up with the Samsung mashed up version or overlays and butchered android
