Google Pixel and Pixel XL

I like the iPhone design, even if it's a bit long in the tooth now (and it's far from perfect admittedly). At least the large bezel actually has a purpose for the home button, having nothing there just looks poor.

I've always been a nexus fan despite owning a Samsung now but I have to say this is underwhelming in the extreme for the money, and I have to say if I were to choose an HTC device now I'd have the HTC 10 over this.

The Pixel phones are extremely boring IMO, nothing to shout about. As many users have echoed before the design and price is rather poor. I don't know what Google are on but this is the first time I haven't been excited about a phone.

IDK if I'm getting older or phones have reached their peak now. It's all about value for money for me and this device does not present that for the tech Google offer.

Secondly the Google assistant thing isn't all that either. Google have made a serious error with this phone and my main fear is that Android will become even more fragmented with Google's approach with regards to this phone holding back features only for the Pixel series phones.

It's a dark day for Android....

Overpriced, not sure how Google expect to sell these.

Other than being a Google device which counts for nothing, what are the stand-out features of these phones? why should anyone pay iPhone 7 prices for this?

I'm not bothered by the bezel - I'm a little disappointed because given the money, it doesn't offer anything more than the much lower and much better Xperia or Samsung S series offers - it feels like a desperate attempt to take a chunk out of the apple market which...It fails at as well, because honestly? If I had a choice between the latest all singing, all dancing iPhone or the Pixel, I'd actually probably go for the iPhone.

My biggest problem though, is that google have now essentially stuck two fingers up to nexus owners by purposely holding back updates in favour of the pixel; this thing will be shipped with 7.1, plus assistant and a couple of other bells and whistles, whereas nexus owners can expect to see a developers version "some time in December".

Absolutely ridiculous.

software efficiency since Google have taken the Apple approach of building the software for the hardware with Pixel.
I have read this too somewhere, can't recall where. Someone on reddit actually has the unit and has stated it to be ridiculously fast. If that is the case, then Google could have someone from Qualcomm onboard to tune up android specifically for this phone.

It probably helps that it also has upgraded storage from previously eMMC based.

tbh, I am still of the mind that the phone should now just be a hardware box with no screen and they should have had Google glass as the screen. Wasn't this being touted before? Why is this not possible today?

Companies forcing apis, on-headset specs that include storage... completely kill the original concept.

We just want a screen that isn't attacked to our phone! Stop the scope creep please! Don't want my phone on my face, just want my glasses to show my phone ui.

Really disappointed with Google.

The Pixel is one ugly phone. I would have preferred if they just kept it run of the mill design. The glass on the back is just so so wrong!!! Its like they ran out of money.
Why couldn't they just design a phone from scratch and get some one to build it for them??? I appreciate it would be expensive but if they going into hardware then the cost will be absorbed going into the future.

Not really liking the direction Google is going at the moment. If they are going into hardware in a big way then they should hire some proper designers and do some market testing and focus groups before the release such an ugly device to the mass market.

Google Home: Useful I guess- probably will buy one.
Chromecast Ultra: Think I'll stick with my 2nd gen CC
Wifi boxes: Probably useful

Pixel Launcher and Assistant: One is ugly and the other a rebranded Google Now. Not keen on the new nav buttons and the round icons.

All in all....a disappointment.

As a faithful Nexus owner for many years I am now lost what phone to go with which has vanilla android and no bloat and costs a sensible price.

Google should have gone with Sony for the Pixel....would have looked more refined.

Decided to cancel my Pixel order for now and ordered a OnePlus3 instead. Will wait for reviews to surface before I reconsider. I'm not against the Pixels, but for now I'd rather play with something else.

So disappointed by the Pixel phones, I need something to replace my OPO and wanted pure android. This is ugly and overpriced. Seems like I'll end up with an S7 or OP3 now.
