Google Pixel and Pixel XL

I ordered my XL 128 today. It is supposed to arrive between 24th and 28th. Not impressed by the price but in the end I decided to go for it.

Htc designs are class leading at the high end imo?

This looks to be a mid range phone at premium price.. not impressed in the least.

The p9 is a better package and it's half the price almost

HTC didn't make the Pixel. They only assembled it. Everything was designed and made by Google using the Nexus phones as the proving ground. Supposedly the wireless radios on the Pixel are better than ever before from all the research they did with the Nexus phones, as well as hardware<>software efficiency since Google have taken the Apple approach of building the software for the hardware with Pixel.

Don't know how they can call it a Pixel XL, the 6P has a 5.7 inch screen, how does that mean its an XXL?

The bezers are so bad! Even the G3 i owned almost 3 years ago was MUCH nicer to look at.

The OnePlus 3 i own now has much better bezels

Personally bezel size doesn't worry me too much - I've found previously that the way I hold it can mean I touch the screen inadvertently with really small bezels. Obviously everyone is different, but not really an issue for me. Looks daft in white though, same as the iPhones.

Ordered an HTC 10 today after yesterdays release.

Was hoping the cheapest Pixel phone would be nearer £500. Unfortunately at £600 it's just too expensive.

HTC have stopped their discount on the 10 too and is back up to £569 (from £469), so I had to go through Amazon marketplace for £450.

Did anyone notice today that a replacement Galaxy Note 7 apparently caught fire on a US domestic flight? Fortunately the flight had not left the runway and an evacuation of the plane was possible.

Samsung appears to be really struggling to get a safe replacement to customers. It is unclear what caused the explosion because the phone had already been switched off. When the owner of the phone noticed the phone was "smoking" he quickly placed it on the floor. Apparently when it was later retrieved after the evacuation, it had burned a hole in the carpet.

I wonder if the issue today was the same that led to the first Note 7 recall?

Wishing Samsung well in safely and quickly clearing up this problem.

agreed. bezels aren't one bit of an issue with the size that they are. too small and i touch the screen and it's annoying. one reason why i'd never buy an Edge

It's amazing that people are struggling with this concept.

yeah i think people are just fighting this all the way for the sake of it now as they're upset the pixel isn't a nexus.

EDIT:

I had a thought today with pricing. I know pixel is clearly much more expensive than we had all hoped. i'm bitter about it but luckily have a beautiful 6P and am happy with it so moving on quickly.

With regards to the price shock. Does anyone know what the 6P was priced at dollars wise when first released? would be interesting to compare dollar to dollar, as this year comparing pound to pound with last years phone won't give at all an accurate price comparison

Good article, spud, The spec simply isn't up to scratch, unless they drop the price by £200 it simply isn't competitive.
Ok 4gb ram is nice, but my p9 is blistering quick on 3gb..

And it looks like a 3 year old design. And it's not waterproof, and it has no SD card.

I'm really struggling to see why anyone would want this at this price point.

For this price you'd expect some fancy specs - secondary wide angle camera, fancy DAC, waterproofing etc. But no, just a huge portion of chin.
