Google - Take Action

I think people should need a license to access the internet. It's a part of the infrastructure just like the roads and you need a license to drive a car.

The license exam should have stuff like building custom linux kernels and subnetting and things like that to keep out the facebook *****. I mean just look at the top videos on youtube, pure mongism.

Sounds good, as long as it keeps you away.

Talk of licences is utterly stupid. Are people in third world countries or those on low incomes now not allowed to go on the internet any more then?
Just a tool for the middle and upper classes I guess? And how will assigned IPs work in communal areas or public wifi. No more purchasing stuff whilst you're out and about? This future internet sounds like a right good lark.

If you work for a business or educational institution or some other organization then there would be grounds for some sort of "communal" access, but the organization would be held liable for anything you did on the internet, so they would probably enact their own strict vetting of users. But with 4G who really needs communal or wifi access?

Personally I think the read-only, write-only 2 tier system would probably work the best. The write-only people would produce the content and the read-only would still be able to consume it.

And £500/year is an extremely low price entry point compared to radio or TV. I think anyone with a legitimate need would easily afford that.

Your living in a country that has the right to freedom of speech. Do you not see the irony in using that very right in an effort to curtail it?

It's not curtailing free speech at all. People managed to get by for hundreds of years without the internet.

It's like saying not giving everyone their personal TV channel is curtailing free speech.

Ummm

You need a license to have a TV because the bbc produces most of this countries content and you pay through this license.

Didn't you have to sit a TV test to get your TV license? It took me three tries with 1 major on the first two (observation both times) but finally I passed 3rd time with only 2 minors (positioning) and I could at last use a TV by myself. Are you telling me you didn't have to go through this nightmare?

Did you sit the test with a PVR? I didn't and I can only watch live TV, really sucks :(

But this isn't hundreds of years ago. This is 2012.

This is the digital age where banking, shopping, education, health services, transport, all rely on the internet. And you want to take that away from the poorest of society because you don't like a youtube video? get a grip lad.

I'm not suggesting any sort of regulation of speech or activity on the internet, I'm just suggesting regulating access to the internet. Once you pass your write-access license exam you can still do what ever you want!

Yes I have a Virgin TiVo box and was told that my rewinding by 30 seconds manoeuvre and my navigation were excellent.. Luckily for you, you don't need a license for iPlayer ;)

All those things would still be available to everyone, in read-only form.

I think I might write up something more formal and send it to some politicians. It could be called the "Digital Pollution Reduction Act".

I mean we have sound pollution, light pollution and so forth. And everyone is for reducing pollution of course? Or do you hate planet earth?

With comments like this, yes actually. I do.

I find it rather amusing how wound up some of you get with kwerk. If you don't agree with what he posts then why even offer him a reply. You know 99.9% of the time it will just escalate into a mess.

I cant believe this is even being considered never mind fought against, it just smacks of big business leaning on government to make regulations so they can control what we see/consume/buy.
Here's an idea, educate people so they can protect themselves or their kids against things they dont want to see.....oh no wait, thats too much like common sense and doesnt make any money or play to our needs.

1984....**** you.
