Got A Problem.

I’ve recently put together a PC including the Radeon RX 580 GPU but I’m getting no signal from my GPU when I’ve tried both 8x PCI-E and 16x PCI-E and running HDMI from the motherboard port and the GPU port.

The monitor I have doesn’t support dvi or other connectors other than HDMI and I’m just wondering if I could have other problems than just the motherboard or the GPU being bust. All of my parts are brand new and none of them are second hand.

Does your motherboard work/light up? DO the fans start up? All leads in correctly?

Yeah everything else works just the GPU

what's the GPU exactly? Any RGB i.e. any lights coming on. Do the fans attempt to spin up, or just nothing?

I have a Radeon Rx 580 in the 16x slot the fans spin for about 3 seconds then don’t turn back on and in the 8x slot they stay on. There is a little blue led that lights up when the GPU is on

What make and model psu do you have? Is the motherboard a older model? If so it may need a bios update to be compatible with the GPU.

So what happens if you don't plug the 580 into the motherboard at all, and just run HDMI out of the motherboard? Do you get a signal?

If so, then change the BIOS settings to display via PCI-E first (or only), plug the 580 back in, take the HDMI out of the motherboard and try that.

You can't run CPU and GPU video output at the same time any more AFAIK, so you might be getting a conflict somewhere. Shouldn't do but who knows.

I’ve tried it without the 580 and nothing happens and I can’t even access the bios on the motherboard because of this problem.

surprised no ones asked you what board you have yet? i recall a similar issue a while back trying to use a 390 on z68, it required a bios update to work due to uefi.

looks like it has a post read out display, if you boot it up and leave it for a few mins, what code you see?
edit: i was looking at the wrong board, plug a speaker in and after boot, what beep sequence do you get if any?

Buy one of those little speakers and listen to the beeps to tell you whats wrong with your setup. It's about a quid or £1.50 max

The board will turn on with and without the card and unfortunately I can’t borrow a card right now to test

you dont need one, did you get a speaker with your case or board? is it plugged in, if not please plug it in and listen for beeps tlel us the sequence.
edit: what memory did you buy for it? i think it may be a memory issue. try taking all sticks out other than 1 stick and put it in the left most socket next to the cpu. any change?

hang on folks, if its an X470 that means he has a Ryzen chip in it, they dont have IGPU, So plugging the HDMI into the motherboard wont help im pretty sure the BIOS screen wont load without a GPU to push it out right?

What is your PSU? do you have another GPU you can try with it? where are you based? maybe someone local can help you out if you dont have another GPU to test it with?

a speaker will indicate if its the gpu or something else. really at this point it could be anything. just because you get no screen doesnt mean its the gpu per say. also dont most boards/cases come with one these days?

Guys, back to basics here... It's important to understand the issue before suggesting a resolution.

OP, can you list your full build specs? Is this your first build or have you done one before? This could be something as simple as a misplaced MB post causing a short.

Depends what CPU it is the 2400G for instance has integrated graphics while the 2600(X) doesn't, etc.
