Today was my first day since last summer I went out for a ride on my awesome stumpy and it was by far the best as well. I had all my kit with me including Pocket vaio with Shure E2C's, full bike kit and so on.

I had a close to death like experience. I discovered lots of new land in sheffield which I had never seen before (Such as lovely landscape and buffalo's  :D ). I went 2 wrong routes. I pulled a muscle after a mere 5 miles. I ran into sludgy mud and poo by accident. Weather was lovely. Workout was good. I enjoyed it

I seriously can't wait to do some more (Thought i'd never be this excited! ) :D

I really want a mountain bike, but having no friends that ride, i have no idea where to go! :(
You're at Uni in Plymouth mate, you've got the moors for a start, and there are miles and miles of decent trails along the coast in Devon and Cornwall. There's a Uni MTB club too so see if you can hook up with those guys.

I love it.. you can't beat just going around in mud fast on a bike trying not to fall off.

Such a great rush. Also, it's fun with mates, but less so with others you don't know as they tend to suck :p

Can't beat it.

One place I liked a lot was near centre parcs elveden in the forest are tracks an off road club uses to practice (single tracks between fire breaks(big cuttings through the forest). Really fun and they dig holes, jumps potholes etc. :)

Good stuff there.

I dunno, there's a 10 mile singletrack near me, with about 2 miles pure onobstructed steep downhill

Two things I don't like there,
1. Even on single track your hearing is important, using canalphones is going to block external sounds, so I would recommend using something that doesn't block out all outside sounds.
2. The phones and the player are expensive, both can get damaged (the player moreso) so it's better to have cheap phones and a flash mp3 player.

yeah me and a mate went out on sunday. Weather was damned poor. It was all wet and muddy and slushy and slippy. Perfect. Love it!!

Came home absolutely caked in mud, parents wouldnt let me in the house. Thats what its all about. Find a mate to go with and you wont need music and then just get out there and ride. Push yourself and try and scare yourself a little every ride.

Sunday my rear wheel was all over the place and we did some jumps id never done before. Cant beat the adrenalin buzz from pushing your abilities which in my case are limited.

Does anyone here know some good places to ride in Leeds? I'm moving into the city from a place where I have gorgeous trails practically on my doorstep and will need to find somewhere to get my fix :(

Unfortunately no other ear phones stay in as good, not even the Sony EX71's.

Indeed they are expensive, it's why i keep them in my backpack along with my mp3 player which has the remote wire coming out, that is usually clipped to my pocket.

Ask on Singletrackworld.com or bikemagic.com - sure to be some locals who'll point you in the right direction.

Where in Sheffield?

Shortcut from Tinsley, into Brinsworth which trotts off into Darnall. Darnall woodlands into handsworth and I have no idea about the other spots! Then canal route from Darnall into Tinsley.

I did 21.84 Miles today. I'm seriously shattered/Tired. My body is aching!!!

I was going to go further but I had to do a U-turn in some woods, my stomach was giving up on me, regardless to say I ate so much when I returned!

I managed to pop my tire and the cut went through both sides of the inner tube. Luckily I was close to college and good job I had some glueless patches and a presta end mini pump! :D

I also fell down when the gear slipped :\. Grazed the palm of my hand.

Here are is a pic a captured from my phone on one of the spots I was at:

Better tyres and maybe better tubes? IRC Mibro Kevlar > * tbh. (and Nokian Gazzaloddi DH tubes ;)).

and thats why gloves are a good idea.

High rollers.....single ply with some nice thick tubes. Maybe not that great at rolling but have immense grip.Nokian tubes are ok but i would prefer some 1.5mm thick maxxis tubes.

I started riding with gloves last year sometime and havent looked back since.Hands that are clean and nice and soft helps when you end up in shops on a bike ride.....cant look manky infront of the ladies :o

Cant wait to get the work done on my bike :D will post pics when im done.

High Rollers are excellent, there's no denying it, but I said the Mibros cause they're strong and light... and the Gazzaloddi tubes are 1.5s too ;).

Gloves are essential tbh, you don't end up with shredded hands, and they aren't covered in **** if you need to use them. I'm still using some Troy Lee's I got about 18 months ago, lovely gloves :D.
