May I just start by saying a huge thank you to the people that helped me with suggestions on upgrade advice for me to build a 1440p DIY system. I went with the suggestions, built it and the boot up time of my rig has gone from 10 minutes to 10 seconds so I am incredibly pleased. Games are much the same but that is likely due to my gtx 1060 limits.

People also gave me suggestions for a gpu but I decided to wait and read up a bit more. Sadly reading more has left me more confused as prices are apparently meant to now be at rrp but still seem high for here in the U.K.

I am basically asking for people's advice if you'd please. If I was looking at a 1440p gpu would you recommend getting 3060ti or 6070xt now or would you advise waiting for the whole new nvidia gen for end of the year?

Would people recommend a completely different gpu with current market prices in the u.k?

Many thanks

What kind of games do you play?

A 3060 Ti or 6700 XT is the minimum I'd get for 1440p, but at the least I would wait until the 6750 XT releases and see if it changes pricing. If you're prepared to wait until the end of the year, I'd do it, but either would be a big upgrade on what you have now.

If you were wanting to game at 1080p then a 3060ti or 6700xt would serve you well for some time to come. As you want to play at 1440p I would suggest waiting for the next generation of cards and the increased performance at 1440p so that you have more future proofing. Getting say the 6700xt Red Devil now though isn't a bad deal if you feel that you really want a gpu and aren't to interested in ray tracing. Just be aware that it is limited in ray tracing,

You could check Overclockers at 2pm on the 10th May to see if the 6750xt has been released then and the prices. You could also check the internet the night before to see if reviews of the 6750xt are out

I had a 3060ti for 1440P gaming and it was good. Not amazing but it did work.

I upgraded to a 3080 and I'm happier than ever but it's overkill by miles.

3070 or 6700XT or higher get's my vote.

Thank you loads guys again for your response. I got a 6750 red devil in the end as it ended up cheaper than the 6700 red devil and 3070 so thought that had the closest mrp.

The problem is now that checking over my psu it is a 500w bronze so I'm definitely going to need it swapped I think. I was looking at 650w ones but then realised that you guys are probably the best people to ask again. Are there any psus you'd recommend?

Thanks again as always.

Agree with @dfour on a 750W. IF you are on a budget this is good, but you are stuck if you want to upgrade your gpu to a more powerful model in the future

I was told to ignore this one as it used to be good but was quietly replaced with inferior internal parts. Only has 5 year warranty. The ones I listed (although more expensive) all have 7-10 year warranty.

Congratulations on your new gpu, for what it is worth I use the Seasonic Focus above with my 6800 and its been trouble free.

If you're paying £90 odd, just google rm850... Couple places selling it for £92 with free delivery. 2021 version too... Newer design means peak efficiency reached at 30% load.. Might even be enough for next gpu upgrade down the line.
Link below is how much on ocuk.. Click link so you know wgat it looks like, otherwise might get tge okder version(which is still good but might as well get new version as better)
My basket at OcUK:

1/just be careful if you buy a cheaper refurb unit it will only have a 1 year warranty compared to a new usits 10 year warranty
2/ some of the corsair units are 160mm long vs 140mm long of other units so make sure that will fit in your psu space in your case.
Still superb psu.

Good points.
. The place ive been looking at def not refurb.. Running a promo on it, so cheaper than the rm750 from same place.. Comes with 10yrs warranty and promo includes 10% discount on 2nd piece of equipment you buy with it(mobo, cpu or ram... Whichever is cheapest)... Though op only looking for psu so didnt put 2nd bit in
The rm850 is 150 x 160 x 86mm..... Same as the rm750, msi and, be quiet models
I've got the rm1000x which is 180mm long.. so check case can fit.. Guessing most can as generally sit at bottom under an enclosure but def worth checking case 1st

especially if there is a hard drive bay under the shroud as well. This prevented me fitting a rm70 to the last buuild I did. :(

Why I took out and binned my hdd cage as soon as I unpacked my new case:cry:. I know not poss for some people but I've had too many failures and nvme's so appealing not just from speed point of view, but fact they go directly into mobo, don't cause clutter and no wires. Why I like the z690 mobo's so much for intel builds, as most have 4 nvme slots as opposed to 2 on b660 mobo's. Here's hoping am5 platform carries that trend over

So thank you again guys for the suggestion - I got a 850w corsair in the end as it was actually cheaper than the 750 with a sale price on.

I have just fitted it and all seems OK so far except one thing. When I start up my PC it makes a slight click sound. I've checked temps and everything and all seems to be fine (23° cpu cores, 24° mb, 40° gpu) in idle and I don't seem to hear it when it is running or under load...just on boot up. Is this ok?

Brill thank you again guys - sorry just one more thing. When I get my 6750 it has 2, 8 pin power slots. I noticed on the PCI cable that plugs into the power supply it has 2 six pin adapters on the cable with 2 small 2 pin adapters. Do I basically combine this all together and plug into the slots so it is the one pci cable powering the card or am I meant to use 2 seperate pci cables from the psu?....I hope that made sense XD

I would use 2 separate cables if available.
