GPU arrived without seal..?

What happens with graphics cards that are returned fully working under DSR? Do they go back to the manufacturer, are they sold as B-grade or re-sold as new cards?

Both my KFA2 GTX 760 EX OC's came without a sealed box...both cards were sealed in their anti static bags...good enough for me :p

Although if the card was greasy etc then sure I wouldn't have been too impressed.

Most gpu's come with no outer plastic seal these days, however they should always come with the card itself in a readable seal anti static bag, so if the inner seal is broken send it back

The should be sold as B-Grade but most likely they are just put back on the shelf as new.

The places I have worked just put them back on the shelf so that's why you get so many cards and boards that look like they have been used, because more often than not they have.

The ONLY reason a gfx card should be opened before sale is to apply a warranty sticker, but seeing as the serial number can be used to identify the card this really isn't needed anymore with bar code stock systems.

i cant believe some of you are actually defending this.

Its complete rubbish and needs to stop. These items are brand new.

Shouldnt have any dirt etc on them whatsoever.

Well follow up is the card i bought (MSI) doesn't come sealed so no blame towards ocUK. MSI need to sort that out.

I agree. If a product was opened for any reason at the manufacturer or retailer site it should get a brand new ESD bag and seal, otherwise be sold as b-grade. If a retailer receives product that's been opened they should reject it and drive it back to the supplier.

There is no legitimate excuse for this practice.

I'd never accept any computer component that wasn't sealed in the anti-static bag. Outer packaging can get damaged but if it's been out of the bag then it could easily have been damaged by the person removing it not being grounded.

How do u know that these returned cards do not go into some poor chaps OCUK build they sell on the website? It really puts me off using the site and its been said for a long time a lot of del boy stuff goes on at OCUK.

They have no idea how many people they lose due to this, and i only shop now for sealed items like fans etc components are a no go sadly.

No offence

Honestly stuff like this should not be happening and its happening repeatedly which is evenmore shocking.

Totally agree with you but also worth remembering that under distance selling rules, a lot of people probably, and I've seen evidence of it on these forums, including encouraging the returning of working cards, buy a card then return it for one reason or another even when not faulty such as if doesn't overclock well or simply because they just wanted to try the card

Should be sold as b-grade but I wouldn't be surprised if more than acceptable numbers of cards are returned in perfect working order.

I have had it myself before through another etailer but the card worked perfectly all the time I had it(1.5years - Gtx480). The cardf arrived with no outer plastic cover and no anti-tamper seal (or was broken - cant remember now) and the protective wrapper the card was in was all creased up - clearly having been removed at least once before.

I have not yet received a card from OCUK that looks like it has been previously used.

I think most cards returned for non-fault reasons will be perfectly fine but of course as purchasers we want new unused parts if paying new prices!

BTW I think all boxes should have an anti-tamper seal, if not a full outer wrapper than at least an anti-tamper seal or two.

Are we talking sealed as in the outer box? Or in a sealed anti-static bag?

If the former, most of the cards I've bought haven't been sealed however if the latter then that is pretty bad.

Probably both! But at very least the anti-static bag should be sealed and neat looking.
I'm not fond of too much plastic (for environmental reasons) but the cards should at least have an anti-tamper seal on the boxes too - making it easily visible if the box has previously been opened. I just bought a new dyson hand-held hover and that came with one. A nice wide anti-tamper seal stamped Dyson too, so you know it was applied at the factory and this is just on a £140 item. I wouldn't be too happy receiving a £300+ graphics card with no outer wrapper or no anti-tamper seal and even more so if the anti-static cover looked tampered with .

What about BIOS updates that are needed for the card to actually work in certain mobos and other situations?

They could clean it up and re-seal it, but people would be more miffed if they've already sold their old card and have no way to flash.

If it's bought as "New" then it should be sealed end of, Otherwise you are getting a pre-owned product if the anti-static bags seal has been broken and it should be sold at pre-owned prices.

*EDIT* Reminds me actually that my *NEW* 6970 arrived in an opened box and outside of the static bag, The seal was broken, It was taken out and put on top of the anti-static bag.

I bought a 760 yesterday, if it wasn't sealed it would have gone back due to it being previously opened

Thankfully I generally buy Gigabyte parts and have never experienced this issue

randomly items get opened on customs checks when shipped from outside EU and there is nothing you, me, OCUK and manufacturers can do about it.
I liked receiving sealed items though. it gives you that extra assurance that you brand new top condition item.
It might be something for OCUK to think about to improve already high customers satisfaction.
