GPU prices go boom

I do think the Foxeye backlash is in danger of overshadowing the point that graphics card pricing has increased quite sharply. Hopefully these new mining computers and the pricing out of the market of 'amateur' miners (who would still be buying gpu's) might help prices drop somewhat as there is a real danger of significant damage to the PC gaming industry as people move over to better value consoles.

In 2010 the price of petrol sunk to near 80p per litre, by 2013 it was 140p per litre, which is an increase of 75% in 3 years. Yes it does happen, by comparison an increase on another product of 20-25% is not that extraordinary.

I’d just like to point out that those figure are utter BS. Average for 2010 was 115p and 2013 was 133p.

Just a slight massaging of stats to fit your argument!

Many of these 'new mining computers' (ASIC miners) have already been made obsolete by coins forking to become ASIC-resistant.

Thats the whole point, you seem to have missed, I'm not talking about a yearly average I was using the high/low of monthly prices.

People are using a 10 year average of UK CPI and then comparing it to a 3 month period of GPU prices and being surprised the two don't match. I took one of the core products that makes up UK CPI and point out it also has big swings when you look at a truncated period of time.

The fact that short term single data points and long term averages don't match was exactly the point.

I remember when petrol got to near 1.40 a litre people were scaremongering about it being £2 a litre within a year. Didn't happen though. Likewise that was taking a short term increase and extrapolating it forwards, instead of looking at the 10 year average, and even then petrol is now, what £1.21ish? So it has dropped, which GPU prices also could if our exchange rate stops being trash and AMD release a competetive product at a non-ridiculous price.

So now that prices have returned to 'normal' - https://overclock3d.net/news/gpu_displays/most_nvidia_gpus_are_available_at_msrp_in_the_uk/1

Has this thread run its course?
I wouldn't say pricing is back to "normal" in the sense of what FoxEye wants.

They don't update the website for stuff they dont have in stock and dont plan on ordering
So you think OCUK no longer plan to stock the 1080ti Strix OC card? One of the best sellers in the 1080ti range!

If only I used to work for OcUK in the purchasing department, and I knew how they worked ;)

a lot of it comes down to who you looking at for prices.for eg one of those cards mentioned looked on the net within 30 secs 200 pound cheaper.

prices are coming down back to reality.if where you buy it seems dear. check.see if they are cheaper. remember people want you to buy cause miners arent now.or not as they were.

Wherever you buy, I'm fairly certain any after sales service won't be as good as OcUK.

A RX 460 2GB that one of my kids added to their setup not too long ago along with their OcUK setup was found to be faulty after further diagnosis. It was sent back for repair by us to OcUK and off to manufacturer, the repair couldn't get done or come back in time and OcUK replaced with an RX 570 4GB. I'm fairly certain you can't get service like that anywhere else. :)

yes ocuk have great service but if something is £50/100/200 dearer there is only so much service that keeps you buying that product.
