Try a different lead. I remember having massive issues with black screening on a Fury X and after buying a DP 1.3 lead, it fixed the issue.

Was going to buy a new 8700k system then the CPU shortage took hold, now they are normal price the 1080Ti's are through the roof. Looks like I'm waiting until the new Nvidia cards are released..........Retailers can go swivel at nearly £1,000 for a GPU.

No. If mining is still going strong (likely) in late March (GTC) then expect the nV 20xx series to match current inflated prices.
The likelihood is that 2018 is going to belong to the miners. It's time to let go. RIP PC Gaming, you will be missed.

Surely manufacturers and retailers have to take steps; if crypto mining doesn't go away anytime soon it will be a massive nail in the potential coffin of pc gaming?

Huh, my post you quote said exactly how I came to that, if you sell a used V64 on eBay, you get enough money to buy more crypto than the V64 would have made over the next 8 months (it's technically more than it's going to make over the next year as increasing difficulty will lower reward over time).
Anyone paying £800+ for a V64 right now for mining is just stupid as they would get better return by just buying/trading the crypto lol.

That is really disappointing

I built a system for a friend and bought it all from here (about 2 weeks ago) but did a shop about and could have gotten it all much cheaper. Never been the case previous in fairness and I hope they get back on the ball soon.That is really disappointing

When I built my system, I ended up buying a few components from here and a few components from there - Definitely pays to spend a little time shopping around.
I guess at the end of the day, if they are the only ones with stock, it'd be silly to not to charge more money for the cards - Just tastes a little bitter I guess
I dunno how people can stomach buying something for over £900 when it was almost £300 cheaper a month ago. I am pretty crazy with my money but even I couldn't justify this.
The thing is, they are fast and good cards, but they aren't worth a grand. I have 2 x Gtx1080s and even when I paid under £500 for each one I didn't think it was good value.

We need to face reality I think. Gpu prices will never settle back to normality. The increased prices are here to stay and indeed will seal the fate of pc gaming. Something needs to be done immediately to stop this hike in prices and prevent the manufacturers and etailers from making massive profits at our expense. There is no reason for high gpu prices to continue other than pure greed.
Hate to say it, but true. I've given up on a GPU upgrade for my new 1440 screen now until this sorts itself out. A grand being the 'normal' price for a 1080ti is insanity I can live without.

You can pre order a 1080ti for what I paid on launch day, granted you will have to wait for stock but still, it's there.

At current mining rates it would take 2+years and free electricity to pay for a card. There is now stock appearing and not selling out. At ether amd earnings announced lots of chips, shortages of memory but big production increase. If bitcoin drops or even stays flat (looking quite likely) for a month then prepare for a flood of used cards on eBay. I'd expect GPU prices to crash hard in next few months...
