GPU prices go boom

Hopefully, then all the lightweights will drop out of the mining market leaving loads of cheap cards for us long-termers to hoover up, can't wait to upset the gamers even more when they get beaten to every cheap 2nd hand card as well mwuahahahahaha...
And I hope that all the cryptocoins become close to worthless. Nothing personal, but I would rub my hands with glee if it all imploded.

Nvidia said twice that they are bumping up their prices due to gddr so you add 20 to 50£ to Msrp then you add the markup.

THe problem as i see it,is if this all goes on for 12+ months there will be no body coming into pc gaming at the bottom rung. Parants will not be building there kids gaming pc's and nobody will be buying there first pc .. Even if they could afford it there is no stock so if pc adoption fals to near zero it will not take long for all the pc component companies to either go bust or diversify(sharholders will demand it) .. This could be the edge of a very hight cliff we are standing on . And if we steps over the edge its a long way down...with no coming back!!!

I have built several systems for friends and friends of friends and recently built 2 systems for people coming from consoles to PC. I always advise going entry level with the ability to play games at a comfortable 1080P setting and whilst it is still a fair chunk of cash as a layout, they can then upgrade as they go. I make sure they have a decent CPU and all they really then need is a GPU for years and years.

This all went south, when prices of GPUS started creeping up from £500 a few years ago, retailers and gpu manafactures(nvidia) in particular know how much they can push and push and this is a follow on from it. I doubt when the next gen drops we will see prices under 700 for the top end, my guess is more like £750-800.
also, i see a lot of people defending this whole bitcoin con, can anyone explain to me what happened at bit connect?

So, "nothing to see here, move along" eh Greg? People you know can still afford PCs and that's the end of it?

Where the dickens do you get that from? I just pointed out that I have seen people coming from console to PC and nothing more. There is also no need to have the fastest everything and there is options out there to keep you happily gaming, albeit OcUK is getting a bit too pricey.

I agree.......I built my last system approx. 18 months ago (1070 and I5 6600k, so reasonably good), I dread to think what this would cost now. There is no way I would ever consider dropping the best part of £600 quid on a GPU that is only mid range, thus I suspect the prices, if they remain as they are, will make people consider their options as to whether the cost of PC gaming remains a worthwhile proposition.

On another note........will this also feed down to the next generation of consoles? Will the GPU prices affect the cost of the GPU components in a console?

So what's a second hand 1070 Gaming X worth then? Been thinking of ditching PC gaming for a while. Now might be the best time.

Now here's the thing.

As new GPU prices have sky rocketed so have second hand prices.

Currently second hand 1070's are going between £420-500

980 ti's are going for £370. thats £20 for than last week.

I have been tracking 980ti's for a few weeks now and they are in very high demand.
