GPU temp and case type

this. airflow is so important and mesh fronts go a long way to help promote this.
True but some cases compensate by having good side and base intakes (like mine the O11D) so you can have a pretty window/panel in front and still get great airflow :)

yes, i agree, but by form, most "standard" dimensions are front grills with (x)amounts of intake fans.

also - I love the 011D, really really nice case!

So I removed the front part of the case and the mesh, looks like this now

Did some gaming again, temps are now max GPU 61 and max hot spot 74 - so much better.

GPU is at 22 and hot spot 32 as I type this.

I think I would be best to get a new case, as the current noise and look is not what I am after!

Now the challenge will be which one to get, never easy to choose with so many options.

Thanks again for all the help.

Meshify 2 giving me awesome airflow but not the cheapest and pretty big/ unused space. Poss look at meshify 2 compact think it is?

From that picture it does look like you could move that lower 140mm fan down 6cm or so. If you do that and get the fan speeds sorted you should be able to put the front panel back on.

And choosing a case is no challenge: get the O11D (black or white). Just built mine, my brother's and a work friend's all in O11D cases. Really easy to build in, plenty of space and they look fantastic

Is this a matter of me just needing a better case (I suspect it is) or might something else be wrong here?
You have limited air coming in which wasn't an issue with older stuff but is now. Taking the side off is a bit of a red herring as you're exposing everything to ambient air temp but still not allowing your front fans to move air over the components.

Pull the front off. If that gets you temps that you're happier with then buy something with a mesh front. They're only louder if you're sat directly in front but that's mostly offset by being able to run the fans more slowly.

Edited to say - we cross posted. Have a look at Gamer's Nexus case reviews, especially the noise normalized results.

As an aside don't assume that bigger fans are better. I've got a 3090 FE in a P300a case. It does just as well as when it was in my big ass case with 140s.

The smaller case doesn't allow for any dead air spots and the 120s are quieter than 140s because they fit in the provided holes rather than overlap with the case structure as can be seen in your pictures.

True I nearly got one of those but you have to go looking for it, as in you know what you are buying. I know that a lot of front solid cases are not arranged like that and I too have had 3 solid front cases with poor side vents.

I think we can agree its poorly designed at the front.
