HI All
I have recently discovered Eurotruck Sim which seems to run ok on my GeForce GTX460 card.

I am told I really should upgrade the card to something like an MSI GTX960
and I was wondering what improvements a new card would give me.

Thanks

Alan

Thanks guys
Budget is up to £200 and my processor is an Intel i5 Quad core 2500 @3.30 with 8Gig ram.
You are correct the GTX460 does seem to run the game fine and I turned everything on full and it still works the problem was I wondered just how much better it could get but it seems not a lot so I will stick with the 460.

Maybe a new monitor Asus Frameless VX279Q 27" LED Monitor with AH-IPS Panel would be in order to replace my Dell 24"

Thanks for the recommendations problem is I prefer Nvidia.

So a monitor that does better that 1920 X 1080 and a card that
supports it?

Mmmmmmmm suggestions please.

Well I will be playing FPS at some point so I guess the 4k is out.

I'm not overly fussed about the monitor I just wondered why I was being recommended to upgrade the GPU when the one I have runs the game fine.

It also runs Crysis 3 fine as well so I reckon I should stick with what I have for now and wait for some earth shattering new toy to be announced.

Thanks

Alan

Well I just put FRAPS on ETS and it hovers between 38 and 42
I don't know if that is good or not.

Probably get more with a better card, what do you think?

I don't understand this I just maxed everything I could did a short run round Birmingham and got 60fps.

Motorway with more traffic and scenery gives 38/42.

Thanks for that looks like a job for tomorrow.

As you say it's unbelievable my 2500 Quad could have a bottleneck
but I understand that games don't always use all cores.

I'll post results tomorrow.

OK I have been running MSI Afterburner for about 45 minutes this morning and here are some results.
Please remember I don't really know what I am doing yet I watched a quick tutorial on youtube to give me some idea how to proceed, here goes.

ETS in game Graphics set to High it reports
Mem750Mb
Temp 66
720MHz
Framerate 60 it never moves.

Graphics set to Ultra
Mem 802Mb
Temp 67
720MHz
Framerate between 42 and 48 max.

Hope these are useful.

Thanks for looking.

Alan

GPU Usage is

High
62 degrees - 22% - 43% - 41% 405MHz

Ultra
70degrees - 99% - 50% - 720MHz

I have no idea what this means but it is what is showing in Afterburner.

Latest results are

High
66degrees - 73% - 46% - 720MHz 60FPS

Ultra
68degrees - 99% - 49% - 720MHz - Framerate fluctuates 33/46 never constant.

Thanks to everyone for the help.

Regards over clocking my GTX460 well I have never done this so guidance is needed please.

I only like Nvidia cards had some nasty experiences with the others so I keep away from them.

So if the overclocking doesn't go well which Nvidia I don't want to go as far as a 980 yet

Alan

I don't have room for a 29" monitor 27 would be about the biggest.
My current monitor is a 24"Dell Ultrasharp.

I don't only use the monitor for games I also use it for Logic on my Mac Mini and Mixcraft on my PC.

If an overclock doesn't give good results the Graphics card is first
MSI GeForce GTX 960 GAMING Graphics Card 2GB

Monitor cash would probably take a couple of weeks something like
Asus MX279H 27" LED Monitor with IPS Panel.

Comments?

OK the new numbers after increasing the clock to 800 are not inspiring.
High
67degrees - 99 - 47 - 720MGh Framerate 53/57 depending on scenery complexity.

Ultra
66degrees - 99 - 44 - 720 Framerate 38

So will going for the 960 4gig make a big difference?

ok settings on Ultra

61 degrees - 99 - 43 - 824 - 42FPS

The voltage is not showing anything the slider is full to the left.
The voltage slider won't move.

OK 800 was stable have now increased it to 850 that seems fine.

The numbers for 850 are.

69Degrees - 99 - 49 - 851 - Framerate 27 Mem is 1009.

I have unlocked the voltage slider and the voltage reads 962
but I haven't touched it.

Just done another run with settings on Ultra the above was normal.

68 degrees - 99 - 49 - 851 - Framerate 50

Thank you for the info I shall certainly follow it up.

Does this mean I don't need to get a 960 or a 970?
or would either of them still give me more than overclocking
the 460?

Well considering I like Call of Duty I suppose I should be thinking of
a 970 but I am enjoying seeing how much I can get out of the 460.
